Nice photo's Art. You've posted a couple of really good links lately.

On a related topic here are some elk photos from the Smoky Mt National Park. These are on the NC side in Cataloochee valley. The Park service has released about 100 all together over several years. They can be seen here, and there is a smaller herd near Cherokee.

I've made several trips in the West including Yellowstone and Rocky Mt National Park in the past, but all in the summer. Seen thousands, but never during the rut. For anyone in the East that wants to hear an elk bugle, get over there in October. It is worth the trip, and a lot closer and cheaper than driving to Colorado.

This was the dominate bull. He had just finished showing a younger bull who was boss and ran him off when I took this photo.

How about a "low life" photo?
RattlesnakeDen-1.gif
My old pony and I stumbled into this mess one spring many years ago.
That old pony come plumb unwound. I made the best ride of my life right there.
I told him there wasn't any way he was gonna buck me off that day.

The picture of the salmon crossing the road is exactly how this one was caught. Along with several others after 5+ inches of rain 2 days ago. No real stream, river or pond within 500yrds give or take, only slight depressions on the side of the road for drainage on my dirt road, where I used my pool net.. LOL.

4 alligator gar
1 catfish
1 smallmouth bass
2 small ??? ( looked like large bala sharks from a home aquarium.)

Residing in my pond now

That might not be. But I feel some are. Don't care either way, they are still some very good photos.

I have been trying to get a good photo of some osprey and bald eagles that live and hunt near me but the pics are ALWAYS blurry! Seems I am never ready with the camera when the opportunity presents it'
s self!

Well nowhere in the same class as some, but the hunt will be remembered by me for a LONG time to come. This was taken from one of the frames in the video when he was only about 15 or so yards out from us. He looks like he is a LOT better than he really is since he is all bunched up in the middle of turning around towards us.

My good friend allowed me to set up a two man bow stand for me and the oldest grandson to use back when he was around 4. I only used one section of ladder to get it up high enough to see down a lane in their back woods. We had a feeder hanging at 50yds for the hogs, and this young one came right up to the stand with us in it.

He got as close as 10' from us, looking and sniffing, but he never spooked. The grandson was all eyeballs, he had never been that close to a nice buck before. He kept whispering over and over, are we gonna shoot it pawpaw. And I kept telling him he is too young right now but in a year or two you betya. He knew we were there and would walk right up and look us both right in the eyes as if to say, yep your pegged, but I just don't know what to do about it.

We got close to 45 minutes of video of him, but had to keep stopping, and starting the recorder due to him being nosey. He would walk out to around 20 or 25yds, and soon as I turned on the camera, he was right back on us like we had him on a string. The grandson had a huge time of it. He eventually walked on off like he had something better to go do, but never got excited or even bothered by us watching him all that time.

Here is another I thought I'd share. Eagles have been nesting on a college campus only about 5 miles from home for the last few years. They put up a camera to monitor them 24/7 each year. This year there were 2 eggs, only one hatched and junior is about ready to fly last I heard.

We had a couple of snows this year just after the eggs were laid. A cool photo of mom on the nest. That is dedication.

A live feed.

We call them Dagga Boys (Dagga being the slang for mud used for building huts now applied also to concrete). These boys were in the Kruger Park

Buffalo.gif

Is there anything more magnificent? A nice Kruger bull.

Elephant.gif

A pair of Bateleur Eagles also in the Kruger

BataleurEagle2.gif

Won't see this too many times. I took the photo with my DIL point and shoot. It was only later that I realised that it was not simply a Crab Spider with a Bee but that the male Crab spider was on her back and that there was a Robber Fly the Bee.

The Burchell's Coucal (called the Rain Bird as it appears when rain is near)

Cheers

Great pictures folks.Keep them coming. This is the closest I'll ever get to most of these creatures.

To give some idea of scale;

The size of a Lioness (no photoshopping, the guy is about 5'5")
Lions2.png

The size of a mature bull Elephant (if you look carefully the roof has been dented in and he has scratched the hood with his tusk).

Simply magnificent Kudu, one for the record books.

Art - All I can say is "WOW!"

Andrew,

That's a king for sure! 100+ lbs per side no doubt. No mater what language you say it in that elephant is....Baie Lekker! N'dlovu Mukulu! Tembo M'Kubwasana! and so on and so forth!

Andrew,
can you give some backround of the pic with the lioness and the man?

Certainly,

the guy is Kevin Richardson and he owns a "rehabilitation centre" for carnivores. For me the jury is out on him as they never seem to get returned to the wild so it is essentially a zoo. I just don't like it when wild animal are "domesticated", sooner or later they turn.

Google his name, there are video's on Youtube.

Wow! I should have checked this thread out sooner; probably the best thread in the years I've been a member here.

Awesome pics, gentlemen.
