Will Ruger American Barrel work on a M77 mark II?

I see that the barrel threads for the Ruger American are the same as the M77 (1" x 16TPI). I was wondering if you could put an American barrel with nut on an M77. I'm asking because sometimes the thread geometry is different even with the same pitch. I'm hoping Ruger didn't do this.

I have a M77 from around 2000 that is getting close to shot out. I measured the COL for a bullet touching the lands and it's 0.040" longer than it was when it was nearly new and some known accurate loads have slipped lately.
