Or is the chamber a tad too short? I see they mention the .44 spl along with the .44 Colt & Russian with the Richards Type II, but in the description of the Richards-Mason the .44 spl is left out. I'd really like to get one that shoots .44 spl.
Yep, of the three calibers I mentioned it's the longest. The reason I had some question about it fitting is they also sell the conversion for the 1860 Richards Type II conversion which actually does chamber the .44 spl as well as the 44 Russian and 44 Colt, according to their description. I can't figure out why they would use a different cylinder, unless there is some change to the 1860 frame for the Richards revolver.
Some do and some don't. My early Open Top .44Colt has proper .44Colt chambers and will not chamber .44Spl. My later Richards Type II is marked .44Colt but will chamber .44Spl. Supposedly they're all like that now. Best bet is to just get one marked .44Spl.
