Will the Redding BR-30 solve my problem?

I am loading more for medium rifle, like the 7.62x54R, 7.5 Swiss, and 8x57. I have a Hornady LNL powder measure, but it is set up in the case activated bracket, so using the measure with an extruded powder (I'm using IMR 4064) makes a mess. When I try to put the case under the mouth or use a funnel, I'm getting powder everywhere!

Would I be well served by a Redding BR-30 on the stand with a clamp, so I can just set up when I'm doing rifle rounds and put it away at other times? Does the drop tube work well going right into a case, or is a funnel advised? Right now without a handle on the Hornady measure I can't cut through the powder grains without jerking the measure and spilling. The MidwayUSA comments make it sound like this measure can reliably throw charges of extruded powders.

I would also likely use this for some smaller batches of 223, and some of my 500 S&W loading. I don't load anything over 50 grains, so I'm assuming this measure is the one I want (from Redding)?

Stick powders can bridge in the drop tube and then drop at an inopportune time.

I have Sinclair clear drop tubes on my Redding 10-X and Uniflow powder measures. At least you can see if the charge has hung up in the tube.

If the inside diameter of the tube is too small, it will bridge easily. I have a very small tube for 17 Remington and it is a pain to use with stick powders.

I like my 10-X but i cannot comment on the 30BR. It is similar but not exactly the same.

Like you I did not want to remove the measure from my LNL AP. I bought the Redding 3BR b/c it will adjust low enough for small handgun charges. To me 3BR and BR-30 are the same except the BR-30 has a smaller range of adjustment and costs more. FWIW I have really found the micrometer to be very useful for resetting the measure when I change powders. It has the factory stubby drop tube and I have charged cases directly and into a funnel. I may have onecharge out of 200 that hangs up with long extruded powders. IMR4064 seems to be the most likely to jam of the powders I use. Even then a bump is all that is needed to make it drop plus the drop tube is translucent green and it's easy to see if the powder does not drop correctly.

Like every Redding product I've purchased it is top notch and I have no doubt it will outlast me.

When I load rifle rounds in my LNL-AP I do not use the case activated dump on extruded powders. I just work the bar manually. That way you can tap and get a better dump with out forcing things. You can order a handle for it or make one your self out of drawer knob. Extruded powders never meter will, longer larger the tubes the harder they are to work with.

I have a BR-30 and it works great, although I have not used anything "bigger" stick wise than IMR 4895 and Varget in it. I used it on a stand with case trays, and then made a set up so it works automatically on my LNL. I have never had any bridging problem or spilling problem either way.

When using the drop tube that comes on the measure with a brass block, the only way it will spill is if you don't hold the case in there right.

I recently went with the BR-30 for rifle loads, so as to keep my Redding #3 powder measure set up for handgun loads. The BR-30 seems to work fine up to about 50gr.

I load .308 with mine. The weight depends on the powder, but 50 Grs is a good rule of thumb. If the charge weights you want are close to that, you need to check it to see. At home I have a few max weights for things like H335, IMR 4895, Varget etc.

On XTC shooting, my standing, and 200 and 300 rapid fire I loaded with the BR30 in 308. I would weigh charges and cases etc for 600+

Today I use a Harrells, which I find to have some ergonomic type features I really appreciate. Click stop adjustments, I can use the Hodgdon's 1 pound powder bottles directly on the press. The way the bracket is a separate part, the measure body doesn't warp if I should snug it down too much. (Get a powder measure stand if you get the BR30).
