I'll never buy one. No need to in Alaska. But it seems to me that a criminal could grab a hand full of stamped casings from any range and scatter them at the scene of a crime while ensuring that his own casings are ejected into a container. Just to confuse the police for a while.

I think if I lived over there I'd buy one.

And only one.

First, shoot the d*mn thing, haul out the microscope, see what I can find. Then see if I can get rid of the naughty bits that do the stamping. File, sandpaper, and so forth. Could be fun.

I like guns for the same reason I like Meccano, so there.

I will NEVER buy a gun with microstamp technology. I will continue to buy as many as I can without it.

Ja but Koos, would you still buy it if there was a mandatory criminal charge for removing that microstamping?
In other words the premise of the question is that you won't alter it, you will buy it willingly.
I can't vote, because I am in England and I can't buy diddly in terms of handguns (ones that matter).
However if they suddenly said okay you can have a gun but it is going to be stamped, I would have to take it. I guess if that was all you had access to, you'd have to get it.
But in California they can just buy revolvers. I can see the wheel guns becoming really popular.

The anti’s want fewer firearms sold regardless of how it is accomplished. It seems like a boycott would only help their cause. I expect that I would buy what ever I wanted and could afford.

I don’t live in California. I don’t get to vote on anything that goes on there, but this affects us all. This will drive the prices up on all firearms and could potentially put some companies out of business.

I do have some questions about the law;

Does the law permit changes to the firearm after it is sold?

What about normal wear? I would expect that micro-stamping components would be prone to wear. Will the owner be responsible for maintaining this capability?

Does the law apply all firearms sold in California, even to law enforcement agencies?

If the gun manufacturers would stick together, they could cut off or severely limit sales to LE agencies. Or force them to accept ones with the micro-stamping capability. They could require firearms not be altered by LE agencies to keep the warranty in effect. I am sure California would respond with a new law, but it would take time.

I am not into Auto pistols in the first place so no problemo on pistol purchases. I Will boycott where the bill came from and that's any product I can from Ca.

Would not buy one because I could not practce with it. I sure wouldn't want to shoot in competition with it. Even though I mark each case, I still lose at least six a night. No telling where the brass may be on an outdoor range. Sure wouldn't want to be pulled in for questioning about some of my spent brass ending up at a murder scene. The bullet wouldn't match my gun anyway, but I don't want the hassle.

Do you pick up all your hair at the barber's so you won't be questioned on a rape or murder granted not many of us have DNA on file (I'm convinced the military takes DNA samples from soldiers). But if someone wanted to frame you personnaly they could plant your hair and other things so that you would be a suspect and your DNA could be taken with a warrant.

If they wanted to be anal which is the way I see this going is to require all pistols to have this stamping on them requiring us to trade in our current ones for the new models. I just see a lot of our 2a rights going out the window with the next presidential election. Like most stated above I'm trying to make several purchases now before such legislation takes affect.

as a hardened criminal who has been convicted of hundreds of heinous crimes, i have no reason to purchase a new gun when old ones are so much easier, and so much less hassle.

of course, if i steal a new gun from some punk, the police will spend so much time harassing him, i'll have my own tail covered by the time they leave the donut shop.

Yeah, I really wish the gun manufactures would sac up and quit selling guns to CA...

Yes, but only to a point. I just simply will not be buying any microstamped firearms. I might completely boycott a manufacturer if I feel like they are bootlicking or if they actually start pushing microstamped guns. I cant blame a manufacturer for complying with the law just so they can stay afloat.

Barrett sets a fine example. I only hope that all the pistol manufacturers will simply tell kali to get lost. With all the restrictive laws they have there how many pistols do they sell anyway? The majors such as Smith & Wesson, Glock, Beretta, Colt, Ruger et al should simply tell the folks in kali that they are on their own now, no firearms sales to the cops, no parts, no armorers, no warranty zip, nada, nothing. Let the state begin a state run firearms manufacturing business to arm the cops and make sure they don't violate any patents. Flintlocks anyone?

Not only that...

All American firearm manufacturers should boycott the State of California.

They should announce said boycott NOW!

I won't boycott a manufacturer altogether unless they'd actively promote microstamping, but I'll NEVER buy a microstamped gun.

I would reluctantly buy a microstamped pistol if I had to just as I'm forced to reluctantly buy a S&W with the zit.

But like the zit infested gun where I'm disabling the zit, out comes the Dremel and polishing compound for the microstamp.

This is a really difficult situation for gun manufacturers and we as the gun buying public need to understand that. A gun company is in this to make a profit, not make Internet Tough Guy-esque chest thumping grand statements about not selling into a certain market.

If a company can adapt to continue to operate and make a profit in an adverse market then more power to them, that is the best way to show the AG's that these petty restrictions do nothing. Boycotting the MFG all together for trying to stay in business in a market is exactly what our enemies want. Will I personally buy a stamped pistol? No becasue I don't have to, but boycotting an entire manufacturer is courterproductive knee jerk BS and is punishing the wrong folks and we should know better.

Guys, read the first 5-6 responses...

What's most likely is that the majority of the manufacturers will just quit selling guns in California, because (1) the tech is too expensive; and (2) Give me a coupla minutes with a steel brush...
