I completed the refinishing of my Winchester 1400 MkII I picked. I shot about 10 rounds through it just to function test it and then got down to work. I used Brownells alumahyde II semigloss black and the birchwood cassey refinishing kit for the wood. Being my first refinishing project I learned a few things.
1) Patients is key. Putting 8 coats of oil, one a day, and not being able to play with it sucks. This is not a weekend project as it takes a couple of weeks.
2) I had played with the alumahyde II with an old revolver that came out good but I used a different cleaner to degrease it this time and it crinkled the origional finish below the alumahyde and left crinkles in the finish. Next time I will strip the origional finish even though brownells says this is not needed. I think this extra work will go a long way in the finished product.
3) Now that it is all back together, I see just how dirty the recoil pad is. Any ideas of how to clean it?
4) Although a long and sometimes tedius process, you really take pride in what you come out with. Can't wait to go shooting.
The first two pics are obviously before and the others are after.
Edit: I just realized the first two pictures had the trigger group and cocking handle missing. The gun was complete when I got it, I just thought to take before pictures after I started dissasembly.
