I am looking to buy a new rifle in 300 H&H and could use some help. I am looking to get a new rifle in 300 H&H for hunting deer and elk. Why 300 H&H, I already have a pre 64 model 70 in that caliber but it is too nice to take out and it has a lot of sentimental value. It will see some range use, but more for target practice and playing with reloads to get them dialed in. It won't see any kind of competition.
Searching the forums didn't yield much in opinions between the 1885 vs No. 1 other than some people say some Ruger's aren't the most accurate out of the box and the triggers of the 1885 can be nightmares to work on.
So bottom line I am asking what people think of CURRENT 1885's vs CURRENT Ruger No. 1's vs others.
I have considered C Sharps, not 100% sure I can get it in 300 H&H though.
I have looked at CZ 550 rifles but they seem to be kind of pricey, they would be at the upper end of my price range.
So here in a nutshell is my list of criteria.
1. Must be in 300 H&H
2. Can be single shot or bolt action.
3. Needs to have good bang for the buck, I want the most accurate I can get, but not willing to pay 50% more for 10% improvement. It's going to be a hunting rig primarily.
4. New production. Not interested in buying someone else's problem or way over priced gun.
5. Needs to be under $3000 or less not counting optics.
All help and suggestions will be appreciated.
