Has anyone come across Winchester nickel plated brass that has sealant around the primers ? I was reloading some once fired this evening and had 5 out of 50 that wouldn't come out intact. The bottom of the cup and the anvil dropped but the rims were stuck tight. There's no crimp and I can't see any signs of sealant on the other cases.

Even on cases which have had the primers sealed, I have never had that difficulty. I expect it is the result of some sort of chemical reaction. It may be worth reaming out the remains of the primers, considering how difficult it can be to locate cases at the moment, but I also would take a hard look at the pockets afterward. That is not a place where you really want to find damaged or weakened brass.

Yes,
I just ordered 500 from Capital Cartridge.
Had the same findings, just 4 or 5 where it looked like the primer ripped apart.
Looked like the bottom ripped off.
I had to change the decapping die, because the depriming pin kept pushing up.
Once I changed it just a couple of primers looked like they ripped apart.

That's where I picked up this batch. I just finished loading them and had a total of 8 that tore apart de-capping. I completed the de-capping off the progressive so I could examine the brass. The rest looked fine, no corrosion that I could see. Now I'm working on removing what's left of those 8 primers to inspect the brass closely. I'll report back my findings.

Yep, "ringers". Mostly from galvanic corrosion or water corrosion. I have removed some ringers with a tap of appropriate diameter (never had a real need, just wanted to see if I could). But if/when I discover more than one or two in a batch, I'll soak the remainder in mineral spirits with a dollop of ATF (cases are not too oily and can be easily rinsed with clean solvent).

I had a bunch of Speer SPP 45acp mixed in some range brass I bought. 80% of them did the same thing, left ringers. The cases looked to be in great shape, clean, etc. But the primers were stubborn and just kept ripping out the bottoms.

Had a less than desirable experience with Capital Cartridge. Ordered 300 (I think) 6.5 creedmoor cases at a premium price for once fired. At least 15 were 6mm creedmoor, 5 others were random cartridges, 10 were SRP, and 10 were unusable due to dents/cracks/imperfections, etc.

I processed a lot of the brass so I didn’t want to return it. They did include a lot of good Hornady/Federal/Winchester brass. When you consider all of the unusable brass, I should have just bought new for the price I paid.

$224 to be exact for 300 once fired 6.5 creedmoor shipped. At $.75, it was better than $1 for new (if it was in stock).

After you factor in the 40 I couldn’t use, I’m really close to paying $1 per piece of brass.

Customer service did not want to consider a partial refund. They will not be getting my business again.
