So I picked up a Winchester 62A Gallery Gun recently. It won't feed or load 22LR. (Barrel is marked for 22S, L, or LR.) It will feed and load a snap cap. I suspect the spring in the magazine tube is done. Are these replaceable? How do you get the spring and follower apart and back together with a new spring? Suggestions? Other possible problems/solutions?

if it is like a 62b there is a pin on the end of the tube, that hold in a cap, and the spring and follower will just come out the end of the tube. I think the lifter sometimes on those doesn't always last, so - I'd look there if the mag tube spring doesn't pan out.

On older tube feed rifles, the lifter can fail, usually just gummed up, week springs or worn parts. I'd look at it and clean it real well and oil it. If that didn't do it I would check for new parts and springs.

I've had a 62 for something like 30 years...I clean the outer tube with a patch every year, also the inner tube, again with a patch. I've never completely disassembled the receiver area, but have hosed it out with WD40 & spray contact cleaner, then re-lubed with CLP. This has kept it functioning well, but it does need cleaning from time to time. One last item, check the lifter for any burrs and built up .22 lube/wax/powder granules. Mine tends to foul there with some types of ammunition. Best regards, Rod
