I came across a very nice 94 today while unsupervised. 22 long, short and long rifle. Mint metal condition, very good wood. Spectacular bore with clean, well defined spirals. Excellent action, quite good trigger.

I really like the gun, store wants $495 plus tax for it.

Good, bad, ugly? Help please, know little about Winchesters. Thanks.

One of my favorite rifles of all time. They've been out of production for some time and usually bring a pretty high price on the used market. I see them on gun broker in the &700-900 range. If you are looking for a nice plinker or small game rifle, and its in good condition, I'd snatch it up.

Agree with the previous two posters.
I have one I bought circa 1990. 9422s are very nice rifles, evocative of the "old west" as a lever action yet in a caliber that is cheap enough to shoot all day.
The new Henrys are nice enough IMHO but they don't equal the Winchester 9422.
Browning and Marlin also make similar guns and I am not so familiar with them they may be equal -- especially the Browning.
You sound like you've found a 9422 for a real good price in good condition. If you're interested at all you should grab it because you may not find one for that price again -- and someone else might grab it!!

I've owned my 9422 for forty years. I have nothing but praise for the rifle.

I would be there tomorrow when they open to buy it without debating the price. It is arguably the best lever action rimfire and is a great deal at that price. I haven't seen them locally at any price point and if it were in great shape, I wouldn't hesitate to add it to my safe.

What benzy said...be there early and grab it before it's gone. If in the condition you described, it won't be there for long. The 9422's are smooth, well built rifles with forged steel receivers. Also, at that price you can always turn a profit if you decide you don't like it.

The store opens @ 10:00 am :)

I already have a very nice Marlin 39A but I have to say that 9422 felt and handled "special".

I owned a Browning BL22, 2nd year production, unfired in the box. It was so pretty I couldn't ever bring myself to shoot it, so I traded it.

I should have bought a 94/22 many years ago when I was looking for my first .22 rifle. Hope you get it and look forward to seeing photos of your new acquisition.

Alright, it's after 10AM. WHERE'S THE PICTURES ! ! ! ! !

Hopefully you got there in time. I know that prices vary by country and region but $495 is a killer deal for a 9422 anywhere in North America at this point.

OK, OK...

Owing to a temporary mis-alignment of my gunbudget, I locked it up on layaway. So, just one lousy smartphone picture for now. Serial# indicates a 1975 rifle.

I really looked this one over, it truly does not appear to have been fired.

I'll post back with some real pics when I have it in my safe :)

Very nice! That should make you a great rifle for years to come. I wish I knew who made that sling. I could use about a half dozen of those around here. If it has a maker stamped on it I'd certainly appreciate knowing who it is.

Congrats on the rifle!

I bought one probably 9 years ago, I don't regret it. It is my favorite .22 rifle and I have some neat ones in the safe. As was said above it's a great lever action in a cartridge you can afford to shoot all day long.

One of the best .22 lever guns ever made!

I have a matched pair of first year production I had enough gun sense to buy in 1972.

The 9422M on the far left is serial #F63xx.
The 9422 next to it is serial #F42xx.
The third one is a 94 30-30 made in 1954.

Very nice 9422 you have there.

I wanted one but could never find any at a realistic price. I settled on a Henry, which is a decent levergun, but it just ain't a Winchester.

Oh, that just makes me drool. Great find. I am so jealous right now. :)

FYI, I just checked GunsAmerica and found one (sold) for $650, all the rest start in the $800s and go well past $1100.

Awesome deal for that 9422. You did good.
As a graduation present to myself i bought one brand new in 1990. My first rifle purchased on my own and I still shoot it from time to time.
I have no idea what I paid for it then but it was steep for a kid right out of college. It has aged much better than me.

94 came home today

Well, the financial stars aligned so I went down and picked up the 9422 this afternoon. As you can see from the pictures it's not a safe queen, that's fine, I'm sure when it comes time to sling some lead the nicks in the wood won't matter one bit.

Here's a couple pictures of the new arrival :)

For the price I think you did really well, plus you don't have to worry about getting that first ding in the wood. They are some fine shooting rifles that I think you'll learn to appreciate very quickly.

Congrats on getting it home early!
