I just purchased 1000 Winchester 125gr JHP's from cabelas for $55. I was wondering what kind of performance/accuracy I should expect from these? I had been shooting Hornady XTP's exclusively but that is getting expensive considering i'm shooting 200 rounds a weekend out of my BlackHawk these days. I don't expect XTP accuracy but I would like to be pleasntly suprsied. Anyone have any expirence with them?

I got a box of 1000 of those, too.
I haven't loaded 'em yet, kinda saving them for 357SIG, anyday now.
It will prolly be the weekend before I load 'em up, but they'll be in 357SIG, so it's not exactly the same thing....
I'll be watching this thread for udates, I'd like to know, too.....

I've used the 158 gr ones. Accuracy was okay, but not outstanding. Weight was fairly consistent. 10 random bullets on the scale were within +/- .2 grains of 158 gr, which I'd say is pretty good for what they are (cheap bullets). My only problem was the diameter varies a bit. I lost my caliper somewhere, but last time I checked, some of the bullets would slip right through the chamber mouths with no resistance, while others would stick with the nose barely poking through at all.

The ones I've used were very good, both 125 & 158. This was several years ago. For the last couple years been using Mag Tech to load for the locals.

I have used Winchester 158 JHPs for 357 loadings in my TC Contender and Smith 686 and during accuracy testing with a scope fired some great 25 yard groups.

On the lighter 110 and 125 Win. JHPs I have used them for light 38 Special loads at the indoor 50 ft range and with open sights in the 686 and Blackhawk , they shot pretty well.

My personal experience has been very good with Winchester 357 bullets.

I have been reloading for 9mm, .45ACP. .308, .44Mag and .357Mag using Winchester bulk for a while now and have been very satisfied with the results. I was using Sierra GameKings, ran low on cash, needed bullets for an upcoming class and bought 'em. Haven't looked back...

I just got some winchester bulk 9mm FMJ hollow base. they shot with very good accuracy.

also got some 180gr 40sw FMJ havent used them up. using up my rose dist 180gr FMJ.

think I will go to winchester since I found a source cheaper than the rose dist bullets.

I am not fond of the winchester JHP's myself I prefer remington jhp's in 9mm.

I use 115 grain 9mm FMJ bullets in 9x19. IMHO the are great plinking bullets and you won't be able to tell the difference between more expencive bullets. The 9mm HP works rather well, considering the price.

Well, I can tell you this, they sure beat plated bullets in my opinon.

I was also wondering about these but read that they could be easily dammaged when applying the crimp, so I decided to steer clear of them, that and a lot of the plated bullets I was looking at didn't have a cannalure on them which kind of scared me off for loading them in a revolver.

Thanks for all the replies guys, very good info. Keep it comming!

The plated bullets have a very thin coating...crimping them is the same as crimping lead. You must bell the case mouths to the same extent as you would for lead bullets...I havent found this to be necessary for jacketed bullets with slightly beveled or rounded bases.

Midway's prices for Ranier plated and Remington or Winchester jacketed bullets is about the same...I've even seen Winchester cheaper!
