Does anyone have a step-by-step procedure for this before I loosen the barrel band and start unscrewing the barrel? I understand you do not want to remove the chamber ring. I should take the magazine apart and clean that too. Any instruction will be appreciated.

Best advice on taking it apart is, don't.

Any normal cleaning you need to do can be accomplished without taking the barrel assembly apart in little bitty pieces.

Just get some Gun-Scrubber, a toothbrush, wood picks, and an air compressor to blow it out when you get done loosening up the crud.

Then re-oil and blow it out again.

Thanks for the replies and the exploded view. What I want to do is replace the barrel; you know, remove the existing barrel and install a different barrel. I was hoping to find someone who has done this.

You really can't just change a barrel on a Model 12 with one from another gun.

The headspace ring is reamed to match the chamber of the barrel after the barrel is fitted to the receiver.
Very unlikely any two barrels chambers & threads are going to line up right without reaming the new headspace ring to match the new barrel on a different receiver.

Thanks rcmodel. I kind of thought there was something different about that. Think I'll pick a different project.
