I have a winchester model 12 16 ga. The takedown pin on the front end of the magazine has a spring in it. The spring seems to be bent preventing the pin from being pushed in for takedown. Is this spring available? should I take it to a gunsmith? any thoughts.

PB blaster or Kroil or WD40. Let soak for a few minutes and push harder. It is not supposed to be pushed all the way out. Once it is pushed through to the other side it is used as a lever to rotate the mag tube around.....and well you will see:). John Moses Browning's designs are nothing like the modular stuff of today. Lots of heavy machining, interlocking parts, tongue and groove so to speak and virtually no pins.

Thanks, I actually figured it out under good light this morning. It seems someone had taken the pin out but did not put it all the way back in, leaving the spring that keeps it in the hole hanging out. I pushed it into the slot it rides in and put the pin down into where it goes and it works great...Not a bad deal on this gun, I bought it at a gun show yesterday for $280. It's a 16 Guage modified choke.
