Winchester Model 70 .243 How Old?

My father-in-law just gave me his mothers Winchester model 70 in .243 to use this year for deer season. The serial number is 904XXX. Was curious about the age of the rifle, took it out to the range today and was very impressed with the accuracy. If anyone has info about how winchester's serial numbers work i would be interested in hearing about it.

After Winchester discontinued making the Pre-64, they started at 800,000 for the Post64 rifles. Yours is a 1968 model.
