Winchester model 70 bolt

Does anyone know where I can find a bolt for my Winchester model 70 classic sporter for a reasonable price ? It is chambered in 270 . Thanks .

How old is it? It a push feed or controlled? And you realize it'll require fitting by a smithy?
What do you call "reasonable'? Midwest Gun Works is asking $500 for a complete bolt.

A Classic Sporter is CRF made 1992-2006. I don't know if the new FN made bolts can be made to work or not. I'd call Winchester for advice and see if they have any available that could be fitted.

There are some companies that specialize in used gun parts that may be of some help once you figure out exactly what will fit.

Midwest Gun Works is asking $500 for a complete bolt.

For that price, you could probably peruse the LGS's used racks and find a whole beater M70, and have all the other parts spare to boot.

When we need parts for guns at the shop, our list (In no particular order) goes: Numrich, Midwayusa, Brownell's, Gunbroker auctions, eBay auctions, then specialty shops like VTI Gun Parts, Bob's Gun Shop (gun-parts.com), Midwest Gun Works, and the like. It will very likely require fitting.

I was able to put my FN PBR bolt in my classic claw M70. I think I was able to cam the bolt down. You will have to buy a complete bolt as the threads were different on the firing pin assembly.

Call FN and see if they will fit a bolt to your rifle.

If the gun has the serial number beginning with the letter G, and I suspect it does, then it's a USRAC gun. That was the employee owned manufacturer that leased the Winchester operation in New Haven from Olin. The "Classic" means it was a traditional Mauser type action, not a push feed. The fact that it's a .270 means the case head diameter is .473" and any bolt that serviced a .473" case head should do. Examples would be the .30-06 or .25-06.

I've done business with Midwest Gun Works. I won't make that mistake again, and I feel that you should be able to locate a bolt for considerably less money somewhere else. Of course, have a gunsmith fit it to your rifle.

The G prefix was used 1968-2006. Winchester was owned by Winchester, USRAC and FN during that time. After Winchester moved production to SC they developed a different SN system.

It will be the same answer as always, he took it out thinking it would be safer should a young kid or someone else gain access.

Myself, I would never remove the bolt for storage for any reason.

I confess, I have many basket cases still waiting.
