I just purchased 3 winchester model 88's. These are great guns. One is a post 64 in 308, one a post 64 284 and the last is a pre 64 in 358. The 358 has a very unusual stock that I would like help identifying. The pattern has a flower and is raised. It looks hand carved and the high features are at the same level as the surface of the stock. It was not a pattern cut into the weaving.

Can anyone identify this stock? Thanks!

I thought it was a custom. The work is very high quality. My guess is that the factory stock broke somewhere along the lines especially with the .358.

Thanks!

I had a nice pre 64 .308 Model 88 for 10 years and sold it 25 years ago. Also tried a ,284 for about five years, but I allways wanted the rare .358, and would pay $600+ for a good one in a heart beat. Model 88s are usually the most accurrate of all lever guns, FWIW.

I am going to buy some dies and bullets for the 284 and 358 and try them out next weekend. I am hunting moose until the end of the month and may take the 358.
