Hello all. I'm adding a shotgun to my collection. While I have fired several Ive never owned one. I'm looking at the Winchester sxp defender and the Remington 870. I read numerous things on both. Yes the Winchester is made in Turkey. Both of these guns have received favorable reviews. The Winchester is around $100 cheaper. I know thats not much but the funds are kinda tight. I would rather have the 870 for a couple reasons, U.S made endless after-market items. Ive not found any good resource for items for the Winchester. Any thoughts and info would be appreciated. Is the Remington worth the extra $100?

MY 2 cents... and that's probably about all it's worth...

In my old department (been retired for a few years now) there were five shotguns that were authorized for carry. Both the guns you mentioned were on that list...

Over time, we saw fewer malfunctions with the 870's.. a more solid lock up, rail and feed system as well.. I carried one for over 25 years, same gun, day one to retirement, never spent a day in the shop,(sorry I forgot, I have replaced the front sight a few times) never failed to work, never had a problem with it.. The wood is beat to hell, the barrel and the receiver have a few scratches and plenty of rub marks, no major dents in the iron.. and it was as beat up over time as I was..

Personally, I like the Mossberg 500's. I especialy like the tang safety. When I was younger, I also liked the price. I know this doesn't help you. Have you had a chance to shoot the Rem, Win, or Moss? If you've shot them and like one of them more than the others, then that's what I'd go with.

Thanks for the advice but actually I will be getting neither. I found a good buy on the Mossberg 500. I was originally looking at that one but the price was high. Its on sale this week 259.00. ;)

It sounds like you answered your on question, USA made, tons of after market parts & accessories, NOT made in Turkey.

Just my dollars worth which thru Obamanomics now is only worth $0.02
