WINCHESTER - OUT OF BUSINESS

Out With A Bang
The Loss of the Classic Winchester Is Loaded With Symbolism

And now Winchester is gone too, or at least the most interesting parts of it. The traditional company whose symbol was a fringed rider flying across the plains on a pinto, gripping his trusty Model '73, is finally biting the dust. The entity -- now technically U.S. Repeating Arms, which produces the rifles and shotguns as a licensee of the Olin Corp., which still owns Winchester ammunition -- announced Monday it was closing the plant in New Haven where the rifles and shotguns have been fabricated for a century and a half. Some Winchesters will continue to be built overseas, but three guns -- the classic lever-action rifle of western fame, the bolt-action hunting rifle (called the Model 70) and the Model 1300 pump-action shotgun -- will no longer be manufactured.

What was interesting was I was in the gunshop today and the gentleman standing at the counter when I arrived had just purchased a very nice Winchester Shotgun. To be honest I didn't ask what exact one it was, but him and the shop owner were in a conversation and I couldn't help but over hear it while waiting. The gunshop owner told him he was very lucky as there was a mad dash on just about everything winchester and now if you didn't snap anything up, your SOL basically. He said hes had some other customers come in the past few days asking for various things including that same shotgun that gent was buying and the gunshop owner had been told no can do, everything had been ordered and wiped out. Craziness if you ask me. That guy before me had ordered that gun a few weeks ago before the announcement of the closing. I guess he got lucky he chose to buy it before the rush. The gunshop owner was saying he was lucky too because now some of that stuff is going to go up in price, he got it at probably the best price it will be for quite some time now.

hogwash

they are not closing down winchester. Only one plant that makes a couple of models of lever actions only. Not their ammo section or the other guns.

Not only was this posted some days ago, it's not ever necessary to post the same thing in multiple sections of the forum...
