Hi all,
Some great posts in here when I searched for this topic, and I hope to get some of that great help for myself...

I have inherited one of these gems. It is in what appears to be wonderful condition. Not even a hint of a spot or pit anywhere on the receiver or the 30" fixed full barrel, w/ the nice wide vented rib and a mid-pt. bead. It has the wide trigger w/ the grooves that feels so good. The bolt was obviously jeweled originally, but that is a bit faded - sure would like to have that re-done some day so it turns heads like it must have in the day. My plan is to leave the barrel alone and shoot trap with it... (maybe find a second barrel to use for skeet or have drilled for chokes)

I know I need to have the bolt buffer replaced or do it myself (preferrably). I've had my 1100's apart, but never an SX1. Can I do this myself?

Next note - the cocking handle on mine comes out w/ little or no effort. Looks like I can find this part and several other related ones at Nuline, but am not sure what I need. Is this most commonly caused by the handle itself (so it needs to just be replaced) or is it a pin/spring/etc. that holds the handle and needs to be replaced? If so, can I do that? (Nuline's online catalog references these parts for the SX1: Cocking handle (C.H.) - factory; C.H. altered to stay in gun; C.H. Retainer; C.H. Retainer Spring; C.H. Retainer Spring Pin.)

Last note, for now... - the length of pull on this one from the top of the butt stock to the back of the Pchmyr pad is right at 12 & 3/4" - not a misprint. Did Win. sell any this way originally, or is it likely that my great-uncle had it cut down at some point? (actually, both the fore and butt have nice wood but don't quite look like a matching pair...)
At any rate, it's way too short for me, so.... looks like Nuline will sell me one for a decent price - I guess. Will I be able to replace that myself? Anyone have one in a more standard length they'd like to swap for a shorter pull?

Sorry for such a long post, but thanks for reading and thanks for any input on this..

Lukester,

LOP is not measured from top of the buttstock. It is measured from the face of the trigger to the rear face of the recoil pad. If the pad is concave, then measure to the thinnest part of the pad (usually the middle).

Sorry that I can't help you on the rest of your questions.

SXM1....

Hi Lukester, you have a great gun just needs to be updated...

Normally top of the stock to back of stock B4 any pad or butt plate is 13" and that will depending on the type, style, thickness of pad... develope out to 14 1/4"+ length of pull which is average for most shotgun manufacturer's, so you need a new stock, I will send you some pictures of Field grade stocks that I have for sale...

The cocking handle is held in place with a spring loaded detent, sometimes they loosen up, you can repair yourself with the aid of a Winchester Super X Model 1 Maintance Manual (18 pages with detailed pics, etc) that you should buy from me for $10.00....

 I rejewel bolts (to like new and spectacular) for $30.00, Carriers for $30.00 also...I ill email you my address so you will know where to send the check...

You can replace the bolt Buffer yourself it is a no brainer and I will tell you the short cut later...buy the Buffer from Wrightsgunsmithing.com, also buy a new "O" ring while updating.

The trigger you describe is what they call a Stage 1, it is fine just the way it is...

NuLine is best for most parts but way too expensive for their wood.....

:D I have a 26" Skeet barrel that has been screw choked by Briley with 3 chokes, $425.00...

I'll be sending you some email stuff...

thanks

Chuck
