This is the last week for the deer gun season in Florida. Usually, it ends for me with seeing nothing and wasting my time. However, this year was an exception, I killed two deer the other day in 5 minutes.
The first was a small doe that came right to my stand and I shot her in the neck from 8 yards. As I was gutting her, I looked down the road and a buck was walking towards me about 200 yds. away. I stood up and crouched back down and he must have thought I was a doe because he started running towards me. I lost sight of him and stood up and then he turned broadside to go into the thick stuff. I squeezed off a shot offhand and saw him kick with his back legs .. a good sign.
I went down there trying to determine just where he was when I shot and found a fresh track. I followed it in and found blood and looked up. He was lying 20 yards ahead shot through both shoulders.
That might have been the longest offhand shot I ever made. It was ~ 160 yards.
Luck is where you find it!
