Hi, it's me again with a new question. I will buy soon an cz75 or an baretta 92 fs for fun/target shooting and sd. Since 2008 the silly non jhp ban for handguns has finally lightend here in austria. And as I am in an shooting club, I can get the evil jhp rounds. Here in Austria i can get the winchester silvertips, speer goldots

and some magtech jhps

It would be also possible to get some remington +p 115 grain jhps.

Witch of these rounds would you rocomend for sd or would you recomend something else.?

I would be pleasesd hearing some answers.

Greetings from austria.

I use Remingtons right now, certainly decent stuff. The Gold Dots have a good record, too. Glad to hear your laws are become more shooter/self defense friendly!

gold dots in 124gr.

+p does not make that huge a difference if you can't get them.
I would get the remingtons 2nd.
followed by magtech and then lastly the winchester.

This is what they look like fired through water or beef brisket or just about any expansion media from one of the sub compact ccw 9mms they look the same regardless of barrel length/velocity The fragmented one is a 90 grain corbon jhp . the speer gold dot has a plated on jacket that will not shead and the corbon dpx is a jacket with no separate core.

I also depend on 124+p gold dots. My own informal ballistics tests (phone books, pine boards, water jugs) have been impressive. they are deadly.

Pardon my ignorance, but are you saying that you can have guns in Austria? Even handguns? :what:

I thought it was only us blood-thirsty Americans that could have guns.

BTW, I'd use the Winchester Silver-tips or the Speer Gold Dots in a CZ 75. :)

Wow, nobody pointed out the first rule of SD ammo.

Whatever works best in your gun. Gold Dots can be recommended 'till the sun winks out, but if they don't feed right in your gun, it's just a paperweight.

Speer Gold Dot 124 Grain +P

I use Speer Gold Dot 124 Grain +P loads in my Glock 19 that I use mainly as a house gun and sometimes carry for self defense. NYPD issues this as their standard load and have pretty good results on the street with it. I live in Tennessee and can get pretty much whatever load I want, but get this load for my Glock 19. It functions great. I'm sure a CZ or Beretta will eat about anything you feed it. Both are wonderful choices for a house gun and also carry if you have the right holster.

I have heard that Austria is a beautiful country with lots of mountains, fairly low crime, and lots of history. Do a lot of people speak English fluently? Sadly, I do not speak German or any foreign language (like most Americans), and hate how that would hurt my ability to travel to Europe and communicate with people. Are there any good gun clubs in Austria that host IDPA matches? I am about to join a gun club in Tennessee that does both IDPA and practical shooting.

How difficult is it for a foreigner from the States to bring a handgun to Austria for target shooting in a match like IDPA? Just curious.

Thx again for the great answers. and yes I have to check out first with ammo shoots best in my pistol I buy all the sd ammo I can get here in austria and then I will test all the loads.

@razorback2003 As English an an compulsory subject in our shools most of us Austrians should be able to communicate in English.. It shoud be no problem to visit Austria without some german skills. And yes we have got some decent gun clubs here in austria. And yes some Gun Clubs host some IDPA matches.

Concering bringing a gun to a match to Austria, I have no idea how or if that is possible.. I am sorry.

What do you think about the callisc 115 grain jhps, according to an buddy some 115 grain federal jhps ( called 9P I think), would be very cheap. and I have also heared that i would be no problem to order some of 124 grain +p gold dots, and they have a very nice price. :)
