I went to the range recently and picked up two boxes of ammo for my Bulgarian PA-63. They handed me Wolf Makarov ammo. Okay, no problem.

First round refuses to chamber. Cycle and try again with the next round. Second round jams the gun solid. I managed to disassemble the gun and extract the round, but it left me wondering if others have had this problem before or perhaps there is something wrong with my gun?

Edit: Other ammo seems to feed just fine, especially Federal and S&B.

Not to be an arse, but have you tried cleaning the gun? I have a PA-63 and they said it rarely needs to be cleaned, but a cleaning once and a while helps.

There are reasons why the PA-63 has been $129 for years and the East German Maks are $300+.

Not to dis the gun, but it is the economy car of the 9x18 caliber, so it is likely that it'll be picky about ammo. If a particular brand works, I'd stick to it. If the Wolf is steelcased, it might not like that, as opposed to the brass S&B.

Wolf 109g FMJ was the only ammo to ever jam my Bulgarian Makarov, much less my PA-63. Thay have since changed the ogive, but I have not tried the latest incarnation.

Wolf is okay in other calibers (I like the 7.62x39 154g SP), but I stick with 92-95g FMJ for the PA-63.

I use silver bear, which is basically Wolf, I've never had a problem with it. Again, I'd just give the gun a good cleaning. Also, check your grip on the gun. If you're limp-wristing, that might also be the issue.

Wolf=crap

Wolf is the FIATS of ammo. Buy different brand. My 9mm jammed every mag with this type of ammo, not to mention all the primers that failed.

Just a safety tip folks. Do not under any circumstances shoot bullets heavier than 95 grains in the smaller Makarov type pistols. There were over 60 cases of P63 and P64s and other pistols having catasrophic failures when heavy bullets were used. Makarovs are made to handle the heavier bullets. The lighter smaller 9by18 pistols are not. Some may be getting away with this, but why tempt fate? Source of info was from Makarov.com posting a couple months back. Have two Bulgarian Makarovs and can put heavier springs in them if need be.

The gun stays as clean as I can get it, minus a dab of lubricant here and there.

That said, anyone need two boxes of Wolf Mak ammo?
