I'm sure it's been asked & answered once or twice :) , but @ $90/5k for the Wolf SRM vs $145/5k for CCI #41 (1.8¢ vs 2.9¢) I'll ask it again...

Pro's & con's of switching from CCI #41 to Wolf SRM for .223?

I will say I'm very pleased with my current .223 load as-is. Very consistent and extremely accurate.

Because the CCI #41 is a magnum primer & load shouldn't change as much? CCI says to use magnum data for #34 & #41 so I'm making an assumption that if I wanted something interchangeable I should go with a SRM vs SRP?

Also - and I could be way off - but I thought the Wolf SRM had the harder cup like the CCI #41.

I havent used wolf primers yet i still have a few k of CCI and federal im working threw but my dad used some and liked them, no issues anyways.

You do know that Wolf makes a 5.56 (KVB556M) primer specifically for .223/5.56 right? I've used thousands of them without issue. I bought mine when they were about $11 a K.

I personally wouldn't buy Wolf to save $55.00 per 5k rounds. 5k rounds through a .223 is probably more than half the barrel life, so $55.00 isn't exactly gonna make or break you. I say this because I have tried Wolf .223, and I had exactly one failure in 1000 rounds. I have also had numerous failures with Tula SPP.

First time I have a failure with a domestic primer, I may change my tune. But that hasn't happened, yet, and I'm at around 10,000 rounds. I also still buy Wolf LPP if the price is right, because they have been perfect to me.

Back before all the crazy component shortages I bought a lot of Wolf primers in all sizes pistol and rifle.

You can find a gazillion threads on them. They work just fine. "Military" primers are harder but that doesn't make them a Magnum The harder primers are supposedly to prevent slam fires. Perhaps in full auto mode it may be important. Yes CCI says use Mag data but what does that mean? The powder is what determines a Mag primer.

I have loaded thousands of 5.56 with regular Wolf SRP and had no issues I also use CCI SRP.

CCI 41 and other Military primers have not been around to the general public for all that long. What did everyone use before then?

The regular Wolf primers in pistol and rifle are still pretty hard, Harder than Winchester.

I shot over 200 of them today with H335, they all went bang;)

*Effective slam-fire prevention requires more than special primers. Headspace, chamber condition, firing pin shape and protrusion, bolt velocity, cartridge case condition, and other factors can affect slam-fire potential.

I've used Wolf/Tula in Small and Large rifle, Small and large pistol and I won't hesitate to use them again, Seat them firmly and move on.

The Wolf SRM is a harder cup for 5.56, but not magnum strength. Poor nomenclature for sure. I bought a bunch for $14 per 1K. They work just fine, but I haven't shot them against the #41 for accuracy yet. Not all powders need a mag primer in .223/5.56.

I shot the Wolf/Tula vs the CCi400 and noticed hardly any difference in performance. Didnt do any comparison with the CCI450 or #41 though

I tried em when i got a pretty good deal on em and have had no issues to date with them

I'd save the $55 myself....

I wonder if SRM might really mean "small rifle military"? I've probably loaded 50,000 by now (yep) and I can't recall a single failure. I have an M16 and several other AR platforms and run through quite a few rounds. Now the SP did have a run of problems several years ago but I haven't heard that in the past 2-3 years.

their large rifle primers are awesome

i've been hesitant to switch to wolf small pistol because of rumors years ago of them jamming up in the dillon 1050s which is hella annoying. several people told me lately they have no problems with them in the press so i'll probalby give it a try

Have used thousands of Wolf 223/5.56 primers and have yet to hit a dud. Will buy some more as soon as I can find them.

I also load 300 BLK with H110/W296 - same as for .357MAG. Those powders want a magnum primer for .357MAG so I also assume they benefit from a SRM in 300 BLK? Might not matter but CCI #41 ignite the 300 BLK just fine for me - and any SRP might as well for all I know since I never tried a different one.

I had numerous full multi strike duds with their pistol primers. I hear their rifle primers are better provided your firing pin hits them hard enough.

I have had no problems with my using Wolf/Tula primers in all flavors. I also have seen where there were problems with some a few years ago. I was lucky and all mine purchased then were OK. They are a bit larger in diameter being metric and some say that they insert hard but this means I usually can get an extra loading or two out of my brass when the primer pockets enlarge too much for CCI/WIN primers. I can get by with that.;) As far as I can detect the different brands of primers all work about the same as far as velocities with the same loads. That said I am not loading at max or making bench rest ammo either.

I got a deal on a bunch of wolf small pistol primers. I had about twenty duds out of the first box of 1,000. I have not had any out of the second box so far. I say keep cost per round as low as possible even if you do have an issue here or there you are still money ahead.

If you experience failure to ignite with Tula/Wolf SP primers, try using them in 45ACP cases with small primers.

I have been shooting my particular lot of Tula SP primers with harder cups (which won't always ignite in my Glocks) in small primer 45ACP cases with 1911/M&P45/PT145 and they have been going "bang" to my delight.

When Murom Plant in Russia give you lemon primers, make lemonade rounds! :D

I bought 10,000 Wolf Small Rifle Magnum Primers when they were on sale right before Sandy Hook. I have about 6000 primers left. They are great for range ammo but I wouldn't use them for SD/HD reloads. My FTF's with them could be due to the powder clumping in the rounds. If I were you though I would save the money and buy them.

I bought 1000 Tula large pistol primers back in 2009. Used them all in 45 ACP and they all went bang.

I prefer to use domestic primers but would buy Wolf/Tula again if that was all that was available.

I would certainly place the blame on the powder and not the primer. you have clumpy powder in ammo under 3 years old? How are you storing your ammo and powder?

I've used at least 10K of the Wolf pistol primers, large and small. Not a single dud. I've got about another 10K to go before I need to reorder.

Bought them 10-2012 @ $14 per K and haven't had a single misfire with them.
