I want to replace springs in the M1 carbine bolt due to extraction/ejection problems. I bought a complete springs pack from Wolff but I am not sure which spring is for the extractor.
There are two springs in the kit with nearly the same diameter and similar length to the original spring. One is shorter (7 coils, length exactly the same as the old spring), one is longer (9 coils, slightly longer the the old one). Could anyone tell me which one is for the extractor?

Why not email your question to Wolff?

Anyhow, I suspect the longer spring is the one you want. Every recoil spring I've ever purchased from them to replace a tired original has been longer than the old one.

I emailed Wolff but they haven't answered. I also thought about installing the longer spring but I wanted to make sure.

Ordnance specs -
Extractor plunger spring: .125"+/- .002" OD, 10 coils, .416" free length, .026" wire diameter.
Ejector plunger spring: .125" OD max, 1.125" free length, one end crimped to .053" +/- .004" ID.
Sear spring: .145" OD, 15 coils, .687" free length, both ends tapered
Magazine catch plunger spring: .124" OD max, .079" ID min, .813" free length.
Safety plunger spring: .1035" OD, .695" free length.
Hammer spring: .280" OD +/- .003", 26-1/2 or 27 coils (old spec 22 coils, those should be replaced), .188" ID min, 2.616" free length.
Operating slide stop spring: .131" OD max, .367" free length.
Operating slide spring: .256" +/- .004", .179" ID min, 10.28" free length.

Edited to correct the free length of the sear spring.

Thank you for data, it makes clear that the longer of the two similar springs is for the extractor. The other one must be for the slide stop.
