One of my guns, a S&W 2nd gen .45 (457), has two recoil springs, one inside the other.

The S&W 457 has two recoil springs.

S&W engineers started revising the recoil spring rating in their compact 3rd gen .45's after the first version of the gun.

The current pair of nested light blue recoil springs used in the 457/457S are also used in the 4513TSW (obviously), as well as the 4013TSW and 4040PD. They refer to them by different part numbers and by whether they're the "inner" (short/narrow) or "outer" (longer/wider) spring.

The company apparently only makes orders for the discontinued 3rd gen recoil springs through one of their spring vendors every several months, or so. The last time I ordered some of these replacement recoil spring "sets", they were back-ordered by something like 4-5 months and they arrived separately from each other. Since I own (3) 3rd gen compacts which use these nested springs, and they aren't always in-stock, several years ago I started ordering 10-12 pairs at a time, just so I'd have them at hand.
