Hello, I'm new:) I followed a link here from CCW. I've been to a few other gun/self defense forums and notice there's not many females.

I am guessing that is the same case here?

Sorry, I think I put this in the wrong forum, I thought this was a general forum. My apologies.

There are a number of women members on THR. One of the moderators, PAX, is a woman, and her personal web site http://www.corneredcat.com is an excellent resource.

Most of the members at the rifle club to which I belong are old, fat white, men - like me. Many in the shooting sports, and the overall RKBA community, are aware that it is necessary to reach out to people who are not exactly like we are - whatever we are like.

To survive, we need to make it clear they are welcome at the range, and do our best to convey to them whatever expertise we may have developed over the years. Someone - maybe Ben Franklin - once said, "We must all hang together, or we shall certainly hang separately."

By the time I finish typing this (I type slowly) there will probably be several messages welcoming you to The High Road. Pull up a chair, pour yourself a cup of coffee, and sit a spell.

Regards,
Andrew

ms. k,

Welcome to THR.

BobCat nailed it. Too few female shooters and members here, tho' the ones that are here and who participate are all quite knowledgable (and for some strange reason, don't take foolish nonsense easily).

So please join in, learn, contribute, participate. It's almost as much fun as going to the range and shooting, trying to keep everything in the 10 ring, as it were.

Bobcat. Thanks for the welcome. Do you know if the cornered cat is a 'forum' or is it just educational. Sometimes I feel weird talking about more delicate issues amongst men. It would be nice to have a forum where women have maybe experienced some of the things I have, or just women to talk to in general who are pro-active.

Ms.K,
Welcome to The High Road, as you've seen most of these forums are likely to have more male members then female.
If there are things you don't feel comfortable discussing here (or on other forums you've found) you could try:
http://www.womenandguns.com (there is a message board there)

Another site that you might like to check out (not sure if there is a message board or not) is: http://www.2asisters.com

I think I have some more womens/guns site's I found while looking for stuff for my wife bookmarked on my work computer, will post them here next week if I do.

Ms. K,

corneredcat.com is educational, not a forum. Well worth your time.

The Texas CHL Forum (link from http://www.texasshooting.com ) has a number of women members; one is a CHL Instructor. However, I do not think you need to be shy about discussing anything on THR - the women will answer and some of the men, but as far as I can see, none of the men will be hostile or snotty.

Look at it this way: I take in and place stray / dumped / feral cats, and am on an old-fashioned Listserv mailing list for cat people. About 95% of the members who write anything are women - but that does not stop me from participating. I tread lightly and watch my language, but I do the same on THR.

There have been threads on here about how one deals with the pistol on one's belt when using a public rest room; some advocate putting the pistol on the tank, some hanging it by the trigger guard (gasp!) on the coat hook, and some say to hook the elastic of one's shorts over the grip, to hold the pistol secure. If we can discuss this kind of issue without devolving into lavatory humor, there is not much we can't discuss.

If you wish to discuss the reasons you carry, or your individual concerns that lead you to carry, remember that this is the internet - no one knows who you are, there is not much you can't openly discuss. If you want to discuss uncomfortable or catastrophic experiences that you would wish to discuss only with other women, that is understandable - but you will probably be pleasantly surprized at how your concerns are treated here, if you choose to share them.

There is a web site called womenshooters.com - run by the people who have a magazine called Women and Guns - and I think it has a forum.

Anyway, have fun - and please do not overlook the sporting / competitive aspects of shooting, even if your primary interest is in self-defense. I can not overstate the open, welcoming attitude you will encounter among competitive shooters - you don't have to be in it to "win", all you have to want is to (safely) have fun and improve your skills.

Anyway, welcome again. And if you choose to say something about what you carry, how (holster, purse, or whatever) you carry it, what you like and what you don't - you can be assured of some thoughtful responses.

Regards,
Andrew

Edit: Rotorflyr beat me to it! Told you I type slow...

I guess they don't have a quote button here?

Thanks everyone, and Bob in particular. I admit, I'm not a big gun nut, and don't really get into the competetive stuff, but shooting is great for releasing all sorts of negative energy LOL!

hope this helps

[.Quote] text in here is quoted [./Quote]

It takes a little more work but you can post with quotes. Use the above but take out the "." periods. I generally just cut and paste the text I want to quote.

Quote Button

The quote button is the almost-yellow balloon icon. To its left is the actually-yellow image button. To its right is the "#" (code) button.

Let your mouse hover over the buttons, and you should see the alt-text.

Ms.K, Welcome, not all of us are guys here--some of us are women! :what: :D
As for a nice place that is primarily women posting on various preparedness issues, and quite a few shooters too, you should checkout www.mrssurvival.com and see if you like it.

I admit, I'm not a big gun nut!

Hang around girlfriend...,you will be! Hint: guys love chicks with guns!:p

Seriously, although I'm relatively new to this forum, I've found it to be a nice place to hang my hat for a while. I "tried" posting to the womens section on one of the biggie forums, and they made me crazy, discussing breaking up with boyfriends, getting their nails done, etc. That's most certainly not what I'm looking for from a gun forum.

I've got a pretty deep involvement in the pro-gun movement in Ohio. I'm the only female leader of Ohio's foremost gun rights organization, Buckeye Firearms. I'm also an NRA certified pistol instructor, instructing CCW classes here in the state. I've been working on legislation, campaigns, improving CCW laws and the list is endless. Fun stuff! It's important that more women get involved in shooting and the 2nd Amendment rights. We tend to be able to catch the attention of legislators more, because there are so few ladies out there doing this.

Put your state in your profile. That may help too! Welcome!

Welcome to the party! ;)
There are not alot of females here, but those that are here are active & very knowledgable

Hello, I'm another female member...

Just for your info, anyway! I lurk around here, and try to give my 2 cents worth off and on. I have been shooting for about 20 years, and really enjoy it and have found that most men treat me extremely well! (maybe cause I have a gun and know how to use it, lol) Stick around, have fun!;)

:D Welcome to THR. I'm another female shooter that hangs out here! Feel free to ask any of those questions...there are good people here!

Welcome Ms. K!

There seem to be several women on this board, though the guys are definitely in the majority. But I have been here for about a year and have found these men to be true gentlemen warriors. They have answered my many questions with good information, humor, and friendliness. The women, though fewer in number, are knowledgeable, helpful, funny--all in all, though I have found several different forums dedicated to gun talk over the past year, including the womenandguns forum, (which is my second favorite) I like this THR the best.

Hope you enjoy and learn as much as I have here. Welcome again!

CJ

hi there, ms. k!

I'm one of the women, also. I'll be travelling quite bit this next year, but have laptop, & will post.

On the whole, I don't find many women who shoot locally, much less even touch a firearm. the prevailing attitude is "my husband/boyfriend/police will be there to protect me; I can't have a gun around the house with children...etc..." Most of the guys at the ranges seem O.K., with the usual exceptions you'd find in any locale. I guess if I have a goal related to second amendment, it to uphold that right as best as I can, and BE a part of the "armed polite society", not just give it lip service to pursue my personal wants.

Most of the members here are eager to extend their support to anyone in pursuit of education & use of firearms. I personally vouch for Oleg & Peter Grant (Preacherman), both are exceptional men. I have not met anyone else here in person, so I can't say the same yet of them, LOL....

Welcome Ms. K

I'm another female member of the forum. thr was one of the first sites that I joined when I first started shooting. I have found the guys to be a great source of knowledge and are a pretty friendly bunch.
