Womens' Rights Amendment

The US HOUSE Democrats have proposed a Constitutional Amendment For "Women's Rights"

Be Forewarned: While Women Deserve Equality, The Proposal To Change The Bill Of Rights May Lead To Other Drastic Changes, Like Eliminating The Second Amendment!

Say it can't happen? You need to think about the true agenda of the anti-gun crowd. Make an amendment to the BoR for gender equality, then build in some other language negating the Second Amendment or revising the 2A to mean "military and police only".

Prohibition is a perfect example of what motivated "anti" people can accomplish. The push to ban alcohol was proposed around 1915 and became the 18th Amendment in 1920. The repeal of the 18th Amendment was completely repealed in 1933, the 21st Amendment. Do we really want to risk a similar situation regarding the Second Amendment? I believe it is easier to prevent bad law than it is to unwind bad law.

The "rights" in a proposed Womens Rights Amendment are already protected by existing law, which is often ignored. Why should we think that writing another law to be ignored will guarantee rights. The trick is to enforce existing laws. I opposed the ERA the last time it was being touted, for precisly this reason and I would oppose it now. I also have quite a bit of heartburn about using the Constitution to legislate - that's not it's purpose. To show how it can get out of hand. The Florida voters recently approved a change to their Constitution to guarantee particular treatment of pigs in the Miami area.

Considering that the 14th Amendment is essentially already an "equal rights" amendment, a Women's Rights amendment would probably be according some special right to women, rolling back a right primarily exercised by men, or just giving yet more power to the federal government.

Kinda funny though..

a Kennedy campaigning for fair treatment of women....

Seems I remember an instance or two of Kennedy men being less than equal in their treatment of those not possessing a penis.

I suppose as a member of Congress he has full expectation of it not applying to him.

I thought this whole amendment was DOA years ago, becasue woman had second thoughts about it's actual application. I mean if you really think about it, it goes both ways doesn't it?

No longer would woman automatically be awarded custody of children in a divorce just because they have breasts.

You daughter will have to go the post office when she is 18 and register for the selective service for possible induction into a combat arm of the US Military.

There are fields where men are discriminated against regularly such as nursing, education, or at least they are "under represented" and would need Ferderal intervention to level the playing field.

Alimony paid to woman would need to stop as it inherently biased against men.

The list is endless.

The best part is this, what a waste of frickin' time, our borders are sieves, we are in a difficult war in the Middle East, oil prices seem to be permanently stuck on stupidly high, yet these ninnies are trying to re-create the age of aquarias.

I'm not for passing anything that might equate to special rights.

Men have it easier in some aspects in society. Women have it easier in some aspects in society. For example, women in general have an overwhelming grasp of power when it comes to marriage, family, and divorce matters (maybe moreso than "normal" in WA state).

The genders are different; people should get used to that rather than creating feminists and metrosexuals an in attempt to push the genders into some strange asexual middleground.
