Woo-hoo! Got my carry licence today...

A lengthy process of transferring my modest collection of firearms from one country to another culminated today when I collected my carry licence at the precinct today. Feel free to congratulate.

There are things to consider. I only have an SP-01 as far as handguns go, and only a competition holster to go with it. Though I got the licence to carry "for protection of self and property" for everything I have, I'll likely not be toting the AK around, for instance. There is offspring in the house and the significant other is still coming to terms about the appropriate practices for the location.

The very first thing will be getting a proper concealment holster for the CZ. Then I'll need to look into an actually carryable pistol... any experiences with the CZ P-01 to share? How close is the grip and beavertail feel to the SP?

Have to work out storage in cars too, and the in-car transfer to carry moves. Can't take it to the office, but we're well covered there by the employer.

Then there is the thing to get SO on a safety course to get her licenced as well, and finding something she'll be comfy with at least around the house to begin with. Already getting the alarm system and process planned and deployed together, including setting the fire safety plan and equipment right was a very positive experience - but a lot within a short time frame. I don't want to push her on the getting armed part.

I guess we'll go for updating the old first aid skillz first, and see after that...
 
Easy, JImbothefiveth, some here don't like mention of "the walk".. I already got my hand smacked for it when I announced my CCW/CCF permit's arrival last week..!
Igor, like was said, may a gun always be within reach, and never within necessity..

I just recently read about this myself.. Apparently it's what new CCW holders do to pop their proverbial "public CW" cherry.. Most Wally Worlds allow you to enter their stores armed, if you have the proper license.. Hense the "Walmart Walk".. ;)

Oh, and congrats to the OP!! Good for you!! :) (Hey THR Staff.. Where's the standard "thumbs up" icon when you need it??)
 
Hee hee... no Wal-marts in this part of the world, but I get what you mean. Been there, done that already, and the SP-01 in kydex won't cut it. Thanks for the encouragement!
 
As I understand it, the WalMart walk involves eating their icky nachos, and not washing your hands. That way, you get used to the idea of being out in public while wearing what feels like a boat anchor, and the grubby hands keep you from constantly touching the gun.

I only recently learned about the WMW......but I did it as soon as I got my CCW several years ago. Must be instinctive. I bought ammo that day, too.

Found my old Uncle Mike's shoulder rig - now, there is some advantage to weight gain. No problem to comfortably conceal 2 kg of SP-01 with spare mags with just a light windbreaker... :eek:

Still, I think I'll be going for a PCR or P-01 and some snug OWB leather.

The move was from Finland to another EU country, which allows actual carry and actual self defence. No fiasco at all, but a gleaming success! Albeit, pretty significant red tape with scant and dispersed information / instruction on what to get from whom at which point.

I almost got hosed at the last moment by the Finnish gubmint - the law there says you need to apply and obtain a permit even for transferring your stuff out... a last 20€ went for that and I could move the things remaining legal.

All in all, I've spent something in the vicinity of 300-400€ on the gun permits I've now handed over to the Finnish police - and zip nada on the other end. The only costs were some notaried translations and the local shooting sports licence which came as part of the club membership anyway. The government of this country seems happy to handle this work on tax money without extra lubrication needed... and the taxes aren't bad here :cool:

Really glad we made the move. Learning the language OK, already worked at some matches. From next week on, I'll be training new shooters fresh off the basic course.
