I'm looking to change the grips on my Taurus 689 from the standard rubber in came on to wood grips, but specifically wood grips that don't cover the backstrap.
The current rubber grips do cover the backstrap and add a little to the double action trigger pull length, and I'd like to be able to reduce that. So, has anyone fitted open-back wood grips from any source, Hogue, Thai, whatever, to their Taurus 689 or 669 medium/large square butt? I'm not sure if the 66 is the same frame, but it may be. If so I'd like to hear about it, and particularly about the quality and fit.
