Wood splitting sword

No way that sword would work in a real world application. But, watching her do it wasn't bad.

I have a hydraulic splitter, but try to reserve it for the gnarlier pieces that are too much trouble for a wedge and a sledge. It's good exercise!

Frozen Red Oak is easy to split. I used to split lots of wood with a 8 lbs. splitting maul and an 12 pound maul and wedges. Now I would use a splitter. Not a sword.

I just learned, that those crude looking belt grinder shaped "swords" cost $275 for the most basic offering. With that kind of money I can get a Gransfors splitting axe and still have enough to buy a pretty decent bottle of islay single malt...

Why all the hate? GEEZ!!!
Unfortunately there are people who do not have a sense of humor on this forum. As a practical matter I know this is not a good option for chopping wood, but it is kind of interesting that someone would go to the trouble to make something like this. And that other people would buy it.

Fun to watch for a few seconds but not a tool for me.
I was splitting oak rounds yesterday on a 28 ton hydraulic splitter. Up to 30” across and some quite gnarly. I have gone up to 38” and had to move the rounds with the loader tractor.

I'll take my hydraulic log splitter. I want to see her log-sword against a log with a nice big knot in it.
I had been thinking of the the one from Harbor Freights simply because of the price point of $149. I had a couple of 40 ft trees that died during the freeze we had in Texas. One is a pecan tree and the other is an Ash tree. Just don't know if it will do the job and don't want to spend a lot of money as I won't have much use for the splitter once I'm done using it. Which splitter do you have?

Ash splits very easily. A hatchet would suffice. Not sure about pecan. We dont have those here.

Dry ash you can just about Karate chop it to split, pecan I'm not sure there related to other nut trees and some slip fine some not. I'd save some money and just buy a maul. The hf manual splitter works but is slow as Molasses. Save that pecan for the smoker tho.
