How difficult is it to work on AR's? What are the best books/videos/etc.? What special tools will I need?

I have two projects. The first is swapping out one YHM full length rail system for another. They have a special wrench for this, I've ordered that. Other than removing the gas block, I don't think this will be very difficult.

The second is a bit more elaborate. I have an A2 complete upper and I'm thinking about getting a flat top receiver and swapping the receivers.

I'm not a mechanic, but I'm 'mechanically inclined', I suppose. The projects don't intimidate me as much as the idea of bad instructions do. With good instructions (best case scenario someone present who actually knows what they're doing), I'd tend to go for it.

The kind of thing that often gets left out of poor or incomplete instructions, are things like, "this screw is backed by a high tension spring, use caution when removing and be sure to catch the spring..." I've had my share of parts go flying across the room. Sometimes I think the guys writing the manuals still chuckle every time they remember how they left that tidbit out.
