Very sad.

My uncle had a LNiB, 1940s M94 stolen about 15 years ago. The thief traded it for a case of beer. Point being, it may never see a sales tag; might be some back door, need some dope and/or alcohol money.

These are not the kind of weapons that can be traded for drugs, etc...

17#'s of single shot gun using a cartridge that has to be fire-formed and hand-loaded is not conducive to 'drive-bys'...

Like stealing the Mona Lisa...You can't simply fence it...

If I had to guess, I'd say they were stolen for a personal collection...

Yeah because your average thief knows the difference...

Heck, there is $5000 in March scopes alone there.

Probably end up in a dumpster when the nitwit who stole them finds they have no pawn or resale value.

The article at accurate shooter.com says it was taken from his truck outside a hotel. Actually, he had two benchrest rifles stolen from his truck. Here

Maybe it was in the chat forum there, I'm not sure.

And (non-gun) people around here in Arkansas acted shocked when a guy reported $10,000 worth of stolen guns this past weekend.

Hopefully the turn up. As others have said, these should definitely raise the eyebrows of any pawn shop clerk.

WOW Hendersonville NC!! That's in my area. 1 hour way. That rifle around here will get noticed very quickly even if pieced out. Hope the dumby gets some serious time when caught.

I just wonder why people would leave those in a truck at a hotel overnight.

We were coming back from Montana two years ago. Had about fifteen hunting type rifles. There's no way in hell I was gonna stay in the hotel and leave them outside. Told the other guys I'd sleep in the cab of the truck rather than leave them there.

We ended up driving all night and getting home at daybreak. Better than losing $5k worth of firearms. That was the value of just mine.

I was thinking the same thing. Not to say that the original owner did anything wrong but knowing the world we live in it surprises me that they wouldn't take the extra trip to the room and bring them in with them.

I don't let the truck out of sight when it's loaded down for a range trip.

ps Sucks that the man lost his guns

as a side note...my wife is nutso paranoid about keeping stuff locked up. A couple months ago she's at a gas station at a major intersection in South Bend. While she's pumping gas she hears the door handle on the passenger side of her Suburban being pulled to open it. Purse was on the seat.

Fortunately, she had the doors locked. Guy ran off.

Just a thing on the news this AM about the huge number of smart phones being stolen out of locked cars. Window smashed and phone gone in seconds

I've never had a motel tell me I can't keep my firearms in the room with me. Sucks his where taken. I always vote for the 'thief returns them undamaged and asks forgiveness'.

Beats the heck out of me? Just returned a week ago from a USMC reunion in Branson MO. I dragged along a Colt SP-1. SA M1A and a M1 Garand as well as a .45 ACP 1911. We used a motel going and coming and each night all the guns went to our room. The .45 ACP laid loaded on my night stands. Who in their right mind leaves guns in their truck while staying in a motel?

Sorry, I regret to inform you that your guns were stolen because you were stupid.

The owner realizes he made a mistake. So why rub it in?
I didn't rub it in, I merely said if the owner is two rifles short it was because he was stupid. That is not rubbing it in. I closed the post with "Just My Take" which says in my opinion and my opinion only. The guns I mentioned in my post were maybe $6K and anyone with any thought would not leave 10K in guns in a truck overnight at a motel or hotel. Hindsight is always 20/20.

So yeah, in my opinion he was stupid and possibly a reminder that he was stupid will keep others from being stupid.

+1

These are pretty distinctive rifles, and not useful for much other than the use to which they were already put. Whoever buys them will attract attention more than he wishes. It's not like some generic M1 Garand or something like that which from a distance is indistinguishable from every other Garand.

I think "Reloadron" has more than "rubbed it in." I think he is disrespectful. This is such a cool site. It is a shame that the internet promotes such cheap talk, IMO.

I hope the stolen rifles are returned or found soon.

When I was a fed they made it clear that any gov property stolen out of a locked car was to be paid for out of our pocket. Anybody can be victimized in a brief moment of opportunity. Locked cars are not responsible places to keep things.

I agree it wasn't very smart to leave guns in a car at a hotel, especially ones that are unusually valuable.
I often would like to stop at WalMart on my way to or from where I shoot. Ain't gonna happen with thousands of dollars worth of guns in the truck....not worth the risk.
Of course my truck always has thousands of dollars worth of tools in it too, having them stolen would piss me off but not near as much as having guns stolen even though the monetary value may be similar, a different emotional attachment I guess:cool:

Yeah, maybe I was a little rude. It was just my opinion. I just have a "thing" about leaving guns in a truck overnight in a motel or hotel. I wasn't rubbing it in. I simply stated my personal opinion. I am sorry many disagree with my thinking on a subject like this, however, I just feel the way I do about it.

Hopefully these rifles will turn up. As mentioned, they are far from commonplace guns. I would like to see the guy get his guns back as much as the next guy. Doesn't change how I feel about how he lost them. If I am to be labeled disrespectful then so be it I guess.
