Your pictures of reloading benches just make me so jealous! I cannot afford or find room in my house for the deluxe setups some of you guys have. Therefore I have to propose a contest. A contest to determine who has the smallest reloading bench/area in the country. I'm bragging that my confined space is the smallest. Please send pictures of your tiny area. If it is smaller than mine, I will post a picture of my area and concede the crown to you. In any event, I'll show you mine after a few of you post some pictures.
Thanks

I have long since upgraded, but my first "bench" was a living room end table. Made of wood, about two foot square and stood knee high. I had it screwed down to the floor in the spare bedroom of my apartment. Otherwise it would tip over when operating the press.

It didn't take long and the guy below me was complaining about noise. Being fastened down the vibration must have carried through the floor/ceiling.

Sorry, no pics.

The "bench top" is 2.5x3.375 inches but with plenty of area around it.

When I was younger, had no money, and rented apartments... my loading "bench" was double-thickness, 2'X2' plywood set on top of Sears band saw legs. Worked fine for years but kind of ugly.

I have also used a board and C clamps, they work on just about any flat surface.

DSCN0285.JPG My lap was used as my "bench" for a few months. I sat on a short stool and used my Lee Handloader. (Sorry, no pics of my lap handy). I did use a "portable" Workmate bench for a while before I got a dedicated reloading spot...

I still use a walk in closet for 223 sized cases, and pulling bullets. Storage as well. Gets kind of cramped in the knee clearance if I'm at it for awhile.

Some of you are being quite cagey in suggesting things "that used to be" without pictures, and some have taken the time to whip together a temporary reloading rig with pictures. Some of these entries to my contest must be voided as being inadmissable.
CZ9shooter, your tail gate picture is not admissable as this is a temporary set up, Pictures of a "Glove Compartment" reloading environment will be acceptable if a press is bolted to same.
MDI- your proof that this is more than temporary will put you in first place for now as your press is bolted down.
My set up is pictured below.

It measures 36 inches wide and as you can tell has been operable for quite some years. I will disqualify myself from my contest in the hopes that you all won't feel I am cheating. I would never lie about my spartan re-loading set up even tho I have upgraded my bench from an unused oven door in my kitchen.
Keep those entries coming as this may be a lot of fun!

For some of us "used to be" was back before digital cameras existed and we would have to go through trays of slides to find the correct negative, then figure out how to upload it.

I am far too lazy for that, thus the "reenactment" photo.

I used an old computer desk for awhile, not tiny but a lot of presses per cubic foot. I kept a cordless drill handy and just moved them around with deck screws as I needed to use them.

Jmorris you are tied with MDI, however your display of "reloading iron" does not clearly show a "bolted down" reloading bench. The lack of powder, loading blocks, blood stains, and spilt' primers tends tp place you into the temporary category. There are also no powder granules or tools on the working surface. I leave you to my fellow judges here on the web to determine if your display is not a camera trick devised to make my own work area look uncrowded.

I am by no means the final judge in this serious contest. By far my little permanent reloading area has topped all but the most serious braggart (without pictures) here. If I have made a judgement error ... please state your case. Thanks

Very good Horseman61, but where is your powder, etc ? If this is your permanent set up, I will bow down to you. Yes, Jmorris may be just showing has "storage area." He could hiding a hidden building in back of his house that is used for his reloading activities. Your setup is truly impressive in that I am underwhelmed by it's stature.

I have no pictures but mine was a Lee Single stage mounted to a small piece of plywood. Kinda like Jmorris #7 but smaller wood and press.:)

Would C clamp it to the kitchen table. All reloading "stuff" was in a Rubbermaid box.

Who made up the "rules" for this "contest"? Permanent, temporary who categorizes the pics? The only time powder is near my press is when I'm actually loading. I conceded my entry to Jmorris...

How about a bar stool?

Oh and nothing's permanent. If you can put it together it can be taken apart.

In the back room, I keep my Lee Loader sets, primers and some bullets in a metal tool box on top of a wooden ammo crate that holds the powder cans and extra bullets..

These are the classic Lee Loader "with mallets toward all" kits.

When I am reloading .38 Spl, .45 revolver, .30-30, 6.5 Carcano or 7.92x25mm Mauser for blackpowder cartridge, I'll bring the Lee kits I'll need to the kitchen table or the end table next to the rocking chair by the TV.

My "bench" for decapping, resizing, bullet seating, crimping is - ahem - a 20" section of 2x4 that I lay across my thighs to support the tools and components as I beat them into shape with a tent peg mallet that has leather faces on the head.

My 2'x1' set up pic was taken with 110 film. Have no idea where those pics went. I would sit on a folding camp stool.(about the size of a 30 cal ammo can) i didnt have a lot of headroom under those hanging clothes lol

I'm in my furnace room - set up with a B&D Workmate. The trimmer and press are on a T made from 2x6s. It's held in place by the Workmate vice - and I turn it around based on what I'm using.

Rules, Rules, Rules
MDI I was seriously considering awarding a 6 pack prize to the winner of this contest. I , however, got to thinking how dangerous a 6 pack can become before/during the reloading operation. Therefore to save you fine people from danger.... It was when I was consuming said 6 pack that I had an ephiphany! Some unscrupulous member of this board might be willing to be less than honest and whip up a temporary re-loading arrangement with photoshop that would show a press mounted to a toilet seat, Kleenex box, etc and thus take the prize!
Therefore I made up the rule. You must agree it is fair.
Since Jmorris has a reasonable set up that looks like it is bolted down, I can probably bow to the opinion that he is in the lead. After all he probably sits on a La-Z-Boy when pulling the handle on the stool press.
Now if all you entrants will promise to be truthful and not smile while you are entering the contest, maybe the operators of this fine board will not close this thread on us! :D
