I believe it was started in Colo. as mad cow was started in the Northeast. In 1978 Colo. had a bad winter and the Div. of Wildlife and some concerned hunters put together a helo. rescue. They dropped tons of feed pellets to animals that were snowbound. These pellets contained bone meal as a supplement.
Herbivores should not eat bone meal.
Just my thoughts.
Also don't process the meat until tested! Even the knives used to dress the game should not be used again if it tests positive. There is no known method to sterilize contaminated knives, grinders. packers.
