Worthwhile Tucson gun stores?

Hi all,

I've visited Tucson several times - and very much enjoyed it - but I haven't gotten around to checking out any Tucson gun stores. I've got to head over there tomorrow (Th. 10 July) for our annual Bar convention (apparently the surface of the Sun was already all booked up when the NM Board of Bar Commissioners started looking for a place to hold the convention ), and I was wondering if there are any shops that are worth visiting while I'm there.

I'm not so much interested in purveyors of "modern tacticality" (I've seen it) as places that might have some neat oldies to check out. (Maybe I'll even bring a copy of my local shop's FFL in case I find something I just gotta have.)

Please let me know if there's any place that I shouldn't miss. TIA!

Not sure of your definition of "oldies" but if it's guns of the old West, Frontier Gun Shop on Grant Road (just East of Country Club) would be your best bet. Jim Sherrah is a good guy and knowledgable.

Overall the best shop is probably Murphy's Guns & Gunsmithing on Country Club. They happen to have two 1st Generation SAAs in 38-40 on hand (or they did on Monday).

Other good shops in terms of being honest people to do business with are West of the Pecos on Pima and the Cashbox on South Craycroft.

There are other shops in town but I regularly do business with these people and can vouch for their integrity.

Ok, here we go

Murphy's Guns 3235 N Country Club

Diamondback Police Supply 170 S Kolb Rd.

Jenson's Arizona Sportsman 5146 E Pima also one on 1280 W Prince Rd.
(I think the one on Pima is bigger)

West of Pecos 5118 E Pima

Cashbox Pawn 2014 S Craycroft Rd. Just north of the AF base front gate

Frontier gunshop 3156 E Grant Rd. Mostly old west stuff.

If your looking for indoor ranges then Jensens (Both) or The Marksman Pistol Institute 5051 E 29th St are good ones.

Outdoor ranges including several different pistol and rifle ranges then go to TRC Public Shooting Range on W Ajo Way, Three points.

The gunshops are the ones that I usually hit at least three times a month for shopping.

Jensens carries alot of ammo so that would be the place to go if your shopping for variety.

Just stay away from Jerrys Gun Exchange on 22nd. Very rude guy that runs the show there. Prices are up there too.

Jensen's on Pima has the biggest inventory of any Tucson gun store. Their westside location has a smaller inventory, but they have an indoor range there. The only other indoor range I'm aware of is Marksman Pistol Institute (you gotta love the name) on 29th St. They do some retail business, but I'd go to Jensen's.

Be sure to stop by West of the Pecos, they are having a $30 off $299 and under guns, and $60 off stuff higher than that, for handguns. Always nice and friendly.

Murphy's, Cashbox, Diamondback, and Jensen's West all good.

For higher prices but lots of variety, Jensen's East too.

MURPHY'S Every time I go in there I find a DEAL! The rest are okay, but Murphy's is hard to beat.

Just got back from Murphys an hour ago. Alot of nice handguns and rifles there. Too many good deals to mention. Of course my wallet couldnt handle all the ones I wanted so I went out bummed.

Also hit West of Pecos and Jensens.

Havent been in there in 40 days and the calling was too much to bear so I broke down and took a couple hours off early and went.

Well, I went to Murphy's, West of the Pecos, and Jenson's on Friday a.m. I was pretty impressed by the selection and friendliness of folks (is everyone in Tucson friendly, or what? ) at all three places. Jenson's had quite the ammo selection - I wound up picking up a couple of boxes of things that no one around here stocks (and for lower prices than they probably would have if they were stocked).

Since I was down in the area, I hit Frank's (3848 E Pima) for breakfast. Heck of a deal (and, again, nice folks).

So, thanks again, gents. That was a much better morning than I would have had sitting around talking to a bunch of lawyers. I really like Tucson. And after the 103° temps we've been having in Albuquerque, 111° really wasn't too bad!
