Would you buy a gun with someone else's initials?

Wouldn't matter much to me. If it's something I'd buy anyway, I might try for a discount but otherwise? Why sweat the little stuff? If it's that fugly, polish & refinish.

I generally file off any numbers or markings on a gun after i buy it anyways.

Kidding.

It depends on what i wanted the gun for. If it was just a range gun i probably wouldn't mind. I don't think i'd carry it or use for HD though.

I remember a tale by Skeeter Skelton about acquiring a collectible .45 Colt that had the owners name (Bustamonte?) scratched in the frame.

Just my opinion, but personalized firearms should remain heirlooms within the family.

Depends on whose name and initials they are. A S&W .44 with "Elmer Keith" engraved on the butt would bring more than one marked "Bubba". My new Mossberg shotgun has Jerry Miculek's name and initials on the receiver, and they charge a premium for that. :)

I'm so glad you didn't just leave it at the first sentence. Lmao.

Friend of mine got a 94 Win 30-30 lever action (mfg'd in 1960s or 70s) at auction for $150ish. It was a great deal and shoots just fine. I think the biggest reason was that one of the prior owners had engraved their name on it.

I have bought a couple but both were stainless and the engraving wasn't too noticeable (at least to me). On that blue Model 10, you might be able to tone it down a lttle with a careful application of cold blue.

My Model 66 is engraved below the cylinder and under the ejector rod shroud with a county PD info and a rack number. I don't think that it is that big of a deal. If it was a blue Model 19 and the engraving was silver colored bare metal, I might feel differently. I did get a good price though because of the engraving.

A Model 10 is a fine weapon.

File, stone, bead blast, then blue or "paint" it.

It will give you fine service for a low price.

A gun's true worth is rooted in its functionality.

A gun's price is different from its worth.

Price is driven simply by supply and demand driven .

Well, I bought the gun. All in all, I'm quite happy with it. Believe it or not, when I shot the gun, I didn't even know the initials were there! Imagine that. The seller even turned out to be a member of THR.

Also, I'm not so sure that the markings are initials, unless the person has 4 names. Still can't figure out what "FPRC" means though

I've bought a couple. A Smith Model 10 snubbie in excellent condition with the owners first and last name professionally engraved on the left side of the frame. I had my gunsmith buddy buff it and reblue. He didn't charge me. The negotiated price for the Model 10 was $100.00. The second was an original 1873 Winchester rifle in .44-40. Someone had carved WG in the stock. Since those are my initials I had to have it. I call it my "ghost gun". It's a good shooter, too.:)

I saw a WASR10/63 at a gun store once someone had elaborately engraved a full name rank and information about some mission in the most recent Iraq war the person served in complete with the emblem of the division they were apart of and it was marked DOWN for having that on it, someone bought it because the next few days when I returned to said store it was gone.

I have a old Colt Cobra 2 inch .38 with another guys name under the grips. Name as been there along time.

So... I'm gonna add MINE and the date to it. Hope one day someone else gets the gun and add theirs to!

Now wouldn't it be cool to have a gun with several names and dates going back 200 years?

Why would anyone want their Social engraved on anything?

I have my SS number on my mailbox, painted on the side of my truck, and on a t-shirt that I wear.

I also have versions with my credit card numbers to.

The risk makes life worth living!!!

I don't think having "fprc" on there is a big deal at all. To me its actually better than having a persons initials on there. You can come up with all kinds of crazy acronyms for that. Lol
