Would you Colt 1917?

I’ve never heard of a Colt New Service referred to as a little gun. The grip frame is kind of large and trigger reach is a bit much for those with normal to smaller hands.

The price is probably reasonable. If it hadn’t been modified it’d be much closer to $1,000. But the target sights are probably better for someone who is going to be shooting the gun. If you reload 45 ACP you have the option of using standard loads and bullets or modifying the loads with 45 Colt bullets or lighter target loads and not worry about cycling the slide.

Too big a gun. Silly size. Wait for a S&W 1917.
Talking like a True Smith Man!

Colt Vs. Smith is like Duke vs. Carolina

having lived at both town. Why can’t we like both!

They had a Smith 1917 at this shop a few months ago. $1200 very good condition. Should have could have would have

No Colt 1917 fans here??

I'd Smith 1917, but probably not Colt. Especially at that price.

With the modifications and the shape it's in I would probably go $500 max. But that's just me.
As a previous posted noted, the aftermarket sights are nicely done for a shooter, but do nothing for collector value. Then, as now, the Smith is a better revolver action.
A '17 Smith started me down a long road of pistol caliber revolvers, a dangerous rabbit hole.

I might do $750 on that if the lockup is tight. You won't likely find an unmodified example, even in rougher cosmetic condition, for under a grand. At least the sights appear nicely done.

One thing about Colt 1917s- some of them have through-bored cylinders, so you must use moon clips or the cartridges will just slide around in the charge holes. Later examples, and all of the S&W 1917s have stepped cylinders so that they can be fired without clips if necessary- though a stick or somesuch may be needed for extraction and reloading.
Honestly, I usually skipped the clips with my last S&W and the fired cases mostly fell out with a little shake, or Id flick 'em out with a fingernail.

I know all too well about the Smith pistol caliber revolvers...

I think the Colt in the OP is cool, but priced too high for what it is.

Gun is super tight, gap is good, and sights look like it was from the 50’s.

Finish, believe it or not, the rough machining was very factory. I think they were putting there best in there 1911’s for WW1. Definitely starring to like WW1 guns.

Yes, those look familiar. And, nice as a K-frame feels, all tuned up, those big cylinders really roll double action.
The 325s aren't as much fun as the others.
Often wonder how often Jerry Miculek's revos need an overhaul, after he shoots them like Gatling guns.

I got nothing buy rabbit holes in my yard. Cheaper than buying a boat!

I’m with CajunBass but that aside, I rarely see these things going for less than $1200 for a similar condition to the op, most are $1500 to over $2000. What am I missing? If I were in the market, I think I would be on that like hair on a gorilla.
It’s price to be a shooter, I do love shooting old historical gun. This gun probably was used in a conflict as one life, then target sights we put on as another life. and probably sat in a safe for 50 years as another life. It should be shot again.

I think I’ll put $200 on it! couple bucks a months not going to break me.

and yes, I will have my eyes on a S&W 1917 so they can be buddies

Based on your buying habits, they should be pre-offering you a discount and frequent flyer miles.
I’m just happy to find these! and I have not been buying any guns this year, very few and will be using all 90 days of layaway

eventually I’m moving away from Seattle and I’m trying to accumulate as many classics as possible.

My honey holes shop just recently got his shop smashed in by a car (we call them KiaBoys here) and the owner is a nervous wreak. He’s been sleeping in the shop for 3 months now.

When I was still working in the Bronx, we had immigrants from one Eastern European country that specialized in two crimes.

One was smashing into ATM’s with cars, the other was commercial burglaries. They’d cut a hole in the roof and drop in by rope.
