Say a friend of yours works for a TV network. Someplace like A&E, or another network of generally good reputation. They're all excited, because somebody's come up with the idea for a documentary on concealed carry. You know, in case Michael Moore didn't quite do it justice..

And they totally want you in on it, because you're "that friend who's got a gun". I'd be inclined to think of it as an opportunity to really spread the good word.

Would you do it? How the heck would you keep safe? what would you talk about?

disclaimer: I don't work for a TV network-- this was just a daydream. I guess I'm coincidentally interested in who among us proselytizes, and how. And if this is a total waste of everyone's time, kindly move or delete it if it's within your power.

NO WAY. Not unless I was also the only producer. Do a search on Morgan Spurlock and the illegal immigrant episode of his FX documentary program.

There was a show about that on MTV. IT was very antigun but they did have a few positive images of gunowners as examples.

It was called "I am a Gunowner" or something along those lines. 2 Gang members, a rape victim, and a big game hunter in Alaska where the people it focused on.

If there was some magical way to guarantee it would be done fairly, I wouldn't mind. In this world, I'd need a contract that gave me strict control of the final edited version, with huge financial penalties if they violated.

The MTV special was more than anti-gun: it was a documentary of several *convicted* felons involving firearms. These felons were portrayed as "common" gun owners. Furthermore, these roaches were filmed in POSSESSION of firearms after their conviction.

Frankly, if you don't play you don't have a chance to effect the outcome. My policy is that I am willing to work with any producer and will do my best to push the production in the right direction.

When I was working with NSSF, my team headed off a MAJOR antigun "documentary" on HBO by working with the producers; after about 6 weeks of work, the producer called me and said the segment had been spiked because, "the host no longer believes you're the kind of people he thought you were."

The host is a big name person whose name I can't reveal, but we dodged a major bullet because we were "inside." Yes, it was a risk, but we have gotten exactly nowhere playing it safe!

I would but.............

But only with complete and final aproval of any segment I was involved in! They either treat me fair or they don't use any of the material involve me!

Sure I would. If I had to pick it would be a show like american Idol. Why? Because so many women watch the show, and the American public. Plus they have hot chicks on in the past such as Carrie Underwood, Heather Cox, and that super babe Katharine Mcphee. Schwing.

Anyone remember William Hung?

Not without a 'final edit' veto contract, like TCB says. A buddy asking or not. The media can and does edit footage to make shooters look like idiots, insane or criminals. For example you get asked why you want or need a CCW permit. You respond, "So I can defend myself if the need arises." Then they ask if you'd shoot a person. You say, "Yes, I'd shoot somebody if there was no other way out." It could come out, after editing, as, "I carry to shoot somebody."
And A&E isn't a reputable place. They broadcast absolute nonsense on some of their shows.

Nope, then people would know that I have Guns and could/would carry... Being concealed means being concealed...

No way. Why in the world would I put my reputation in the hands of someone I don't know? Only the editor's great sense of morality stands between the truth and a hatchet job. I'd rather he have more incentive than that.

I'd never trust a producer unless I had his ****** in my pocket (apologies to LBJ).

Unlike most Americans, I have little interest in fame or in “getting on TV.” My own experiences with journalists have also made me reluctant to deal with them.

I've been on TV and in the paper several times already for professional interviews. I'm fine with that.

I would only do CCW or RKBA interviews if my name and face were not used.

Yes, if you won't stand up - bury yourself and your guns in a giant PVC pipe and wait for the black heliocopters.

It might go bad - so what - take your chances.

I've been interviewed a few times. Came out well.

A rant - so we preach about our rights and when 'we will fight' if they come to our door and we are scared of going on TV? Give me a break. :fire:

So let those who present the antigun side have no challenge to their position?
