would you sell a gun to buy a gun?

I use to do it a lot when I was younger (single and had a good paying job), mainly because I wanted to experience as many different guns (mostly handguns), as I could. I started with revolvers, got into semi-autos, and have more or less stayed with semi-autos though I still look at getting more revolvers some day. As I grew older I found certain guns (and manufacturers), that I liked more than others so I tended to concentrate on buying those guns and keeping them instead of selling or trading them in for something new.

I've done it once, and the money ended up being spent on something other than a replacement gun. Don't let that happen to you. My plan is to never sell another gun.

Sure, that's how I've gotten some of my best stuff. Just bought a Novak built Colt Commander the other day, yesterday I found a buyer for my Mag-na-port custom S&W 29 to help defray the cost of the Colt.

I've done it quite a few times in the past, mostly with pistols.

It actually works well esp if you are trading up; not everyone has the disposable cash to just keep buying new guns every time the want one.

I very rarely sell any of my firearms, but ... right now ... for a nice G/K43 I would gladly sell several of them, if that were my only funding option.
However, I would not pay a Frenzy-Inflated price for the rifle ... or anything firearms-related unless, o'course, it was an absolute necessity (as in need, not want; e.g., if I had NO ammo for my CCW).

I have done it so many times. Sometimes I regret trading or selling. You get this "lust" as you call it, for a particular firearm and sell or trade off something your not so attached to. When you get the new piece, it's either love at first shot or I'm not so impressed. Went through the magnum pistol craze, went through the magnum rifle craze, went through the AR craze, Went through the CCW craze. Had a lot of safe queens for a time. Now I just want to be able to shoot what I have without running out of ammo!

I guess so, as I have in the past. If it bores me, it gets sold or traded at some point. If I am cash poor, and I want something, and I can live without one I have, it could be in danger of leaving me.

Yes and now is a great time to do it. Nov and Dec of '08, I sold all but one of my commie rifles. $350 AK's sold for three times their real value. I took that money and used it for a new bolt action and nice scope.

In the past few weeks, I've sold the '08 bolt action and a couple pistols that I don't use and am using that to help fund a new custom bolt action w/ 'cool' accessories.

Remember, you are not married to them. You can rub the new off one and get rid of it the first time something flashier comes along… :)

Count me in with the no-safe-queens crowd. If I don't shoot it, I pretty much don't want it (except for a few inherited things). I recently sold three pistols to finance another pistol...but two were very inexpensive, and the one I got was a Dan Wesson CCO :D I was not shooting the three much or at all, and I got out of the caliber of one of them (.380). Right now, there's only one more on my list that I want to get, and I have been debating getting rid of one or two that I shoot little and don't have much affection for. Now would be the time...

Now, if I could only trade for more TIME to shoot!!! :)

For the first 30 plus years of firearms ownership, I thought it was a sin to sell anything.

Recently, I have discovered multiple guns, hand and long that have not come out of the safe for any reason for over 10 years.

So, I have changed my attitude, selling a few and making money on them, to fund the purchase of things I will shoot for fun, hopefully a lot more often.

I used to do it all the time. Then I started to do it like some others have mentioned in a 1 for 1 fashion.

Now I am after quality so I will sell two or three cheap rifles to find one good one. For instance I sold two mosins, and a savage 30/30 to but a heavy barrel remington 700. Down two bolt actions but have a keeper.

The question for you is, would you get rid of the shot gun for any other reason? If the answer is no. Be patient.

I just sold a Sig 556 Swat to fund the creation of a trust and the purchase of a Silencerco Osprey, so yes. I liked the 556 except it was just too front heavy so i may get a partrol version in the future with the shorter gas system.

I have parted with one or two guns over the years, but never to generate funds to buy a new one.

One was a piece of junk that I wanted to get rid of before it broke again. Another was a shotgun I bought for my daughter to use while growing up and she asked if she could have it for use on her farm.

I'm not made of money, so if something strikes my fancy I have to do some soul searching and sell one first. Needless to say my handgun purchases are thoroughly vetted.

I sell eventually but am very slow to do so. No use dying with them. I used to buy and sell a lot and did it mostly for the enjoyment and keeping involved in the "business".

Your 12 ga is Biden's choice for home defense. You don't want to sell that and leave yourself with a 1911 that is hard to hit anything with? :D

Aww. It was only those ARs & AKs that were harder to hit with. ;)

Edit:1911s and all other handguns will only be demonized immediately following, if & when they're done with their first goal.
