Wow! SKS prices are crazy!

One local shop bumped up their already high SKS prices as soon as Obama was elected. I laughed at their $699 price tags, especially when Big 5 down the street still has a good supply.

I have 2 SKS's the Russian one i paid $300 for with 500 rounds of ammo from a coworker 2 years ago, and my Yugo i paid $150 for. The prices now are out of this world. The sks is a good rifle, but much past the $300 range there are better options out there.

People are stupid.

Well I would agree if I thought that these endless threads about gun and ammo prices/availability were started by actual buyers who were then surprised at how their spreading and perpetuating panic helps cause exactly what they are complaining about. Instead I think most of these threads are probably started by some gun store owners and employees who are making money hand over fist through sales and commissions and would like to see the panic buying continue as long as possible. :)

2 Romanians for $400 and 1 very nice Russian for $500.......No wonder they havent been selling.

If and when they sell one piece, they would have made the same profit as if they sold 4 guns at the old price. For what is perceived to be a scarce commodity, that is sound business practice:mad:

Having said that, in a free market, the seller and buyer agree on a price before concluding the transaction. No such thing as overpriced, or underpriced. There are only prices you or somebody else are willing to pay or not.

My family bought a Yugo SKS from a gentleman in this board. Haven't seen it yet but he said the cosmoline was just cleaned off and he never fired it. $275 with some ammo.

I was totally bummed when I saw an SKS carbine in my local gun shop that I had sold to an individual about 9 months ago. It had the spike bayonet, and I'd added a pistol grip to the factory stock, plus had a Chinese 20 round trap door magazine on it.

The guy I sold it to had added one of those useless 30 round AK type magazines.

I sold it for $175, the gun shop wanted $345. I went up there 3 times to look at it, but couldn't bring myself to pay that much for a rifle that I originally paid $125 for. When I bought my Taurus 941 last week I saw they had sold it. Kinda wish I'd bought it back now.

Those Romanians are worth every penny of that $400. True, I paid only $139 for mine, but that was nine years ago.

I've found a few online for about $350. Mostly Yugos which means no chrome lined barrel, and usually the big grenade launcher site. To think I paid $80 for a Norinco and $120 for a Russian before the Clinton ban! Both mine were darn good guns and I still have the Russian. I might buy another if the price dropped down into the $200 range, but I won't hold my breath. I've heard the Romanians are the best out there these days, too.

Im glad the SKSs value have gone up. Besides they have been underrated vs the AK 47s. Now that AKs are priced in the $600 range, its about time for SKS s to be around $400 trailing behind in good measure.

Wow. Somebody who is glad the prices are up. What gun store do you work for?

went to a gun show today and the cheapest sks i found was $300, and it was a *good* condition norinco. sad.

more disconcerning i thought was that i couldn't find a mosin for under $100 :(

Like in all things we want a rise in value of our property , and that goes with guns as well. If I decide to sell it, I dont lose money. Simple economics.

NO I dont work for a gunstore. I collect guns , i got about 50 plus .

everything has gone up, I remeber about 7 months ago I was at a gun show pondering about an Enfiled for $110. Was at a gun show this weekend and priced three Enfields, the lowest was $255. Crazy...just crazy!

SKS ...

I wasn't aware of the sudden spike in SKS rifles. I have two. One I bought a few years back at a gun show with a Derugenov stock (sorry for fouling up the spelling). I think I paid 200.00 out the door. The other I bought from a friend for 100.00 and it's original. Extremely clean, wooden stock and looks like it was never fired. That thing is as clean as a whistle!
Both are Made In China by Norinco. Are these supposed to be any good? I shot the gun show SKS at the range many times and that thing is one heck of an accurate rifle. KICK isn't much, pretty light weight, a rugged rifle from what I've heard. I like the look of the wooden original stock far better than the modified. But a friend offered me 350 for it last week. I refused. My mindset is that I want two of each firearm I keep stashed for "just in case" scenarios. I have 2 - 1300 Winchesters & ammo; 2 - 45 auto Glocks & ammo; 2 - SKS Norino & ammo; Only 1 22 Long rifle but I'm working on getting 2 Ruger 10/22s. I have a Marlin 60 22 Long but want identical versions should one break down it can be used for parts.

Can anyone advise on another good rifle; that's like an SKS that's also in the $400-$500 range?

SKS's main attraction to me was that it was cheap, but from what I've seen this is no longer the case.

In the 90's, Norinco SKS were $75 each, fresh from the arsenal.

Now your talking $300 or more for a third or fourth hand rifle. Nostalgia can be bittersweet.

They're a nice gun though and good design,.I'm sure theres a market for american made SKSs and AKs the same where there is for $2000 american made FALs.

SKS

i paid 120 bucks for mine a couple years ago from a co worker.. with about 500 rounds of ammo. i have seen several now set up like mine in the 600.00 range.. mabye i should sell..

I think the 1917 is under-appreciated. A super nice one would be in that range.

I would never consider selling mine, I like it way too much, plus you may never find another one, as the supply is drying up.

The one shop around here, Allegheny trade, has a few SKSs, the origin of which I didn't check, for around $250. If you ever find yourself passing through the Altoona/Hollidaysburg, PA area, you should check this place out. Be careful though if you are anything like me, because there has not been a time when I have left the store without a considerably lighter wallet. :)
