Had a big gap in my day today so I thought I would take a little tour of some local gunshops. On my way to one I notice a pawn shop that says guns on the sign. I go in and all they have is a Charles Daley .20 gauge and a couple of other old dingy looking shotguns. That's when I saw it, the deal of the century!!!!!!! They had one lone handgun, a 9mm Luger as it was labled. And only $325!!!!! What a deal for a used High Point 9mm!!!!!

Yeah pawnshops are always a crap shoot for guns but you do find some gems.

In a pawn shop in Goldsboro, NC they had an SVT-40 for $700. Not a crazy deal I don't think but still a neat gun to see up close.

Then again, another pawn shop in the same town wanted $250 for a '70s H&R revolver in awful, awful condition.

The local cabelas is always good for a poorly hacked up mosins or enfields with $300+ price tags. Then again, I've had a few 'steals' from the store on milsurps that were grossly underpriced:evil:

Dunno, saw a Yugo SKS recently at a Pawn shop that was in Un-Issued Condition and they only wanted $199 for it.

said the previous owner never even shot it. (looked like it to)

Our local pawn shop always has at least one really beat up Savage 110, usually covered with rust, and almost always over $400. Today's rifle was in about 60-70% NRA, no scope or rings, and they had a sign next to it advertising it was on "sale" for $360 :barf: They also had an NEF 20-guage in apparently inoperable(it was so pitted I would not be willing to fire it) condition for $199 :scrutiny: Sometimes you just gotta wonder.

Reminds me of the Beat up Remington 700 Cabelas had with a cheap Bushniell scope for $850

A New one just a few yards away was $780 and had a deal going including a mounted and sighted 10 power Ziess Scope and a Hardcase....

Pawn Shops are hit or miss, one local shop has a couple of star's in 9mm largo, $269.00 for one and $320.00 for what he thinks is the better one, the same stars Sarco has for $139.00,on the other side of pawn shops is a shop that happens to be one of my favorite shops, is poor boys and they have a much better, and realistic view of gun values, and a pretty good selection to boot, needless to say i visit the good ones regularly, and only visit the bad ones when im in the area and with time to kill.

I only know of one pawn shop that has good prices on guns, and that is only because they are a pawn shop that specializes in guns, and they are knowledgable about firearms. All the other pawn shops I have been into are hit and miss, mostly miss.

i saw a very nice looking CZ-52 at a local shop for $399 the other day... i almost asked if he had a dozen!!!

Guys...

In any of these places, was there a hulking big guy who twisted your arm and forced you to buy the things?

If you want, make an offer. Otherwise, don't.

Easy, isn't it...

I've bought some VERY nice Mitutoyu and Starrett measuring tools at pawn shops. You just have to know what you're looking for.

I picked up a nice Winchester Trapper Model 94 in .357 Mag for $250 at a pawn shop.

bogie, price gouging and misleading labels are while not completely illegal, show a distinct like of ethics. Is it wrong to gripe about that?

I once bought a "pre-engagement" ring for some silly girl I thought I was in love with. Well the timing was totally wrong and on the same weekend that I was going to give it to her, she blind sided me and told me she needed "space". In other words, "We're history". I was quite upset at the time and went back to the pawn/jewelry shop that was run by a friend of mine and promptly traded the ring for a Marlin 45/70. I still have the gun and used it as my primary deer rifle for years. I know I'm much happier with the Marlin than I would have been with that girl. ;)

I got a 95% unconverted 3-screw convertible Blackhawk last year for $215 OTD.

I passed on the $495 Ruger P95 though.

I wish I could zip back to 1997 for about an hour and buy the like new Walther P4 at this local pawn shop for the $125 they were asking. As it stands now, that model is the "one" that I cannot find anywhere at a condition I would own.

...kicking own butt repeatedly.

saw a like-new mossberg500A for $170. I wish I acted on it, but I was looking for rifles back then instead :(

now, when I actually want a good shotgun, that same model will run me about $300 at Dick's.

I've found lots of decent deals at pawn shops, you just have to look around and be willing to haggle. I passed up a $175 .357 Rossi a couple years ago that was in pretty good shape. I've seen lots of decent break shotguns for under $200.
