WW 748 in 5.56

I use W748 when loading heavy for .223. Otherwise AA2230 or IMR4895 are the "go to" powders for 223.

I have had good results with the heavy bullets 69 grains or so. Usually SMK's and fired from a Savage 110FP.

I have found 748 to be sensitive to temperature. I developed a load for an AR that was very accurate and no signs of pressure back in my early days of reloading. Then I shot the same load on a hot summer day and blew some primers. This was before I understood the need to decrease max loads in military brass. One of my .223s is very partial to H335 so that is my go-to .223 powder now.

Actually, in .223/5.56, commercial brass has less capacity than LC brass.

From the research I've been able to find online through many reloading forums I believe W748 most closely matches the powder used in the production of M855 ammunition for our military. If it's good enough for them, well, it's good enough for me. I've loaded over a thousand rounds of this and am totally satisfied. The powder meters well and gives me good accuracy at the range. Plus the powder seems to be versatile if you look at the Hodgdon Reloading Data in case you wanted to load other cartridges. Just my opinion.

I've never tried Win 748, but I have recently latched onto AA-2460 for my 5.56 loads, using L-C brass. I really like how this powder performs and gives a nice case fill as well.

Its right in between AA-2230 and Tac, as far as burn rate.
