XD Magazines

Last year in a gun rag, it was mentioned that the XD can pretty much use any metal mag out there...Beretta, Sig, S&W...as long as the mag is slightly modified. The modification is legal because it does the mag can still be used as originally intended.
What also works is using XD 40 mags in the XD 9...same effect w/o the mods.

Wolfy, beretta mags work but there two things you should know. First some beretta mags will not always lock the slide back after the last round. These mags have a narrower follower and the front top portion of these beretta mag bodies are narrower than xd mags. The follower will sometimes miss the slide stop and not lock the slide. These mags also stick out of the gun a bit. What happens when you slap these mags in the gun they are to long and they hit the ejector. People have been known to break the ejectors off from doing speed reloads with these mags. The best hi caps are the xd 40 mags. I also have s&w mod 59 promags. they hold 15 rounds , don't stick out like beretta mags and after they are converted, the one feedlip that will hit the ejector can be filed down slightly so it doesn't hit the ejector. CDNN investments sells these mags. Mark

XD mags are too short for a Beretta 92 magazine well.

As stated before, the best 9mm XD hicaps are the XD-40 mags, which hold 15 rounds of 9mm without any modification.

I was curious because the CX4 Storm is supoosed to accept the 92 mags and I want a XD-40 so was just trying to answer a "What if....".

Thanks for the help.

What has to be done to modify Berreta Model 92 magazines to work with SA XD 9? Is it as simple as drilling a hole on the leading edge of the magazine for the magazine release to catch on?

you need to grind/file the mag catch hole at the top so that it's flat (so it looks like a "U" instead of an "O".

if you have a 9mm, then it would be best to use a XD40 mag. it'll hold 15rds of 9mm w/o any modifications.

Quack, you do have to modify the feed lips for the thinner round don't you? As to the original post, when I bought my XD's, Springfield gave you a coupon to get up to five Hi Cap Beretta Mags. They work, but as previously stated; are a hair longer, and should be seated in the pistol carefully, not slapped in. I didn't modify anything on them; worked in mine!

I tried the xd-40 modification, but I cant get them reliable enough to use as anything but range magazines. I purchased 4, and of the four, I carry one as a second spare mag. I still only use the 10 round factorys as my primary mags.

I was looking into an XD a while ago. I was told that theSmith and Wesson 5900 series mags will work in the XD but you will have to midify the notch for the mag release so it works with the XD's ambi release. 15 round mags are available.

Is this legal?

My XD40 would lock the frame with one more in the mag. The lips need little pinching.
