I had been looking to get an XDm in .40, and finally found one at a local gun shop to try out the handling. The thing that struck me was how slim the grip was. I know the back strap is interchangeable, but the thickness was very much less than my other XD. I am afraid that the gun would slip in my large hands because I have had this problem with other slim firearms. I guess I just like blocky grips (and no, not Glocky, shudder) Anyone else found this to be the case on the XDm and does it affect your shooting?

I am thinking of an XD standard model now.

The "medium" backstrap is what's put on at the factory and duplicates the standard 9/40 XD grip. The "large" backstrap duplicates the XD-45, while the "small" is, well, smaller than the medium.

Since you have large hands, put on the largest backstrap and you'll be fine. The texturing does a good job of anchoring the gun in your hand.

david E is right on the mark....

The medium is the regular XD grip. I am 6'3 and have large hands. I shot my friends XDm 40 the other day and he had the large backstrap on. It was a good fit for me and felt solid in my hand. The XD 45 and large backstrap on the XDm are similar as mentioned before. You won't be dissapointed with the XDm 40. AT ALL. I can't wait to get mine once I get the $700 for one!

I just picked up my XD-M in 9mm (my 6th XD) last week and got to the range on Thursday to shoot it for the first time. It fits my hand just like all the rest, and I too have large hands. It feels just like my XD .45 acp in my hand. The first round was a dead center X at 15 yards, and all 19 rounds went into one jagged hole. This is going to be one fine shooting handgun!

I'm still trying to figure out how they got that magazine to hold 19 rounds and keep it so close to the original size............

Hope this helps.

Fred

I have 6 "old" XD's and every one of the them fits the same. Problem isn't with the grip, its' with the magazines.:D
