Yard work revolver

Not me. If I needed to be armed doing yard work I would move to a safer place.
Have you a special intuition as to when you need to carry, and when you don't ?

The odds of needing a carry weapon are always low, hopefully. Never Zero.

No Place is Safe. Only Safer.

I'm strapped sitting in my EZ chair with my wife watching Animal Planet on the big screen.

I'm not so bad I carry in the shower, . . . , anymore.

lol! before the kids, I had a Glock 23 in bathroom cabinet

It's hard to know where a safe place is these days. I live in a nice semi rural neighborhood and we've got our share of violent crimes and drug addicted people in our town. A couple days ago, nearby, a naked 38 yr old man approached a child at 2:30pm, assaulted responding officer & tried to take his gun away resulting in a discharge of the gun. Another troubled young man strangled & drowned his mother last month in a nice town park by the river then called the cops. Said he did it to quiet the demons. A 36 yr old across the street died of a drug overdose Memorial weekend this year. A 32 year old living next door to us just went to prison for rape, strangulation, 1st degree assault, threatening with a firearm on his girlfriend and multiple other felonies. I sometimes carry an SP101 2.25" 357 when doing yard work. We also have a 350+ pound black bear who visits or yard often.

I read your reply… and I saw your likes … I live in a quiet neighborhood… over the past few years several ..people in my neighborhood were a arrested for selling dope , break-ins …in a mile radius.. shootings .. murder .. … yep a quite neighborhood… just this morning.. less than ten minutes making this post I had a stranger walking down my driveway… I asked him if he read the No Soliciting Sign ? He admitted turned and walked quickly away .
In todays world ,it always good to be prepared…
And most of the time people live with a
FALASE SENSE of security…

My job … Im a Nurse , Care Coordinator..for a major insurance company… Im out .. 5 days a week … I see stuff that people wouldn’t imagine…
My suggestion… get out of your false reality

Funny. That would assume a gated community with guards?

The neighborhood next to mine is a step up in house prices, value of cars in the driveway, % of college educated, etc. About 6 months ago, that neighborhood installed Flock security cameras at all their exits to catch license plates and car make/model. It turns out that Ring front door cameras (and other home security cameras) aren't set up for recording that info. That neighborhood is a good neighborhood amongst decent to good neighborhoods, but criminals are everywhere and travel to where the good stuff is.

Here's a three year old incident. Not that one would be willing to risk lives over a leaf blower.

We probably all have a handgun we carry while doing chores around the homestead
Mine is 90% of the time is my Charter Arms in 40S&W .. 180gr HST
100% reelable and has a good trigger
My yard work gun is whatever gun I was already carrying that day. I keep soaking my leather holsters with sweat, whether in the yard, working on the cars, or working at work. I really ought to look into kydex types.

All I can say in reply is that apparently I live in one of the safest areas in the country. Been here since late 1956 and never had a problem and don't know anyone that has. The little town I live outside of was designated as the safest in the state for several years. There is a little drug peddling and petty theft but no one gets shot over it. It dull and boring and why I remain here. All the meaness is in the big town to the south and then it's wanna-be gangbangers.

Feral dogs are a problem out here. Ive had to go CQB with them twice with nothing but a garden rake- gun was close but not close enough. I carry now whenever doing the yard work.
Had a suspected rabid raccoon recently, was causing some havoc in the neighborhood. Every time I saw him and ran oft to gun-up, he was gone when I got back.
Actually took a shot at an aggressive possum once years ago. I missed, but convinced him to skeedaddle.

The house to the left me was being rented by cartel distributors for a while. They were quiet, polite, friendly, and kept the property neat and tidy. I suspect they were under orders to keep a low profile. Aside from all the traffic in and out of their driveway, they were the perfect neighbors.

Had a Glock 23 in a bag, on a shelf in my shower.

Very few times are you at such a disadvantage than when your in the shower; naked, everything slippery with soap, eyes closed, sound of the water/singing ...

Plus, if you're like me, it wouldn't be too hard to figure out my shower schedule since I get done with work and shower immediately upon returning home at the same time every day.

Im working on something this week. I Am a fan of the Sirkis Designed Patriot 45 (Cobra and Republic made it). From the factory they are basket cases and hardly ever work so they are a bit of a chore to get dialed in. Anyways one of my parts kit came with a completely unrifled barrel smoothbore LOL. Chamber is fine though. Very strange. Should make an excellent candidate for dedicated upper bird shot 45acp in the case of a copperhead invasion on our property. Now Ill likely never use it because I tend to relocate copperheads. Not big on killing things unless Im going to eat them. Should be a fun project though. Might have to run it with GI feedlip 1911 magazines for reliable feeding along with modifying the extractor. Being the barrel is a smoothbore it should "in theory" hold the shot pattern closer together than a normal rifled barrel (which is about useless for birdshot). Kind of a semi auto pocket shotgun.

Only real threat of assault while doing yardwork on my property is yellowjackets and fortunately I can still run very fast. Copperheads only defend themselves and I wear snake boots. Yellowjacket attacks are almost biblical though.

If someone is so desperate in life they need to rob me for my old trashed up and broken yard tools I will likely just give it to them. It will just break a couple days later anyways. Tools are basically seasonal throwaways these days in terms of quality.

I'll grab a 38 Taurus or my sp101 sometimes, but my little 40 cal auto is usually on me. If it's too hot I may have the lcp. But every once in a while I pack around my 5" super Blackhawk just because I like it. All my concerns are dogs, but I have had one situation I'm glad I was armed for with a cracked out 20 yr old trying to get in my truck. He almost found out what I was carrying in the worst possible way.

I purchased a Patriot about 16 years ago for $100 OTD was at a Pawn Shop .. it looked brand new .. but the Pawnshop let it go cheap .. being it didn’t have a magazine ( me knowing it took a 1911 mag ) I bet I ran 1,000 rds through that pistol most of’em being 200gr LSWC .. I found it reliable !

Just curious, what .357 load do you load if you have a big black bear in your AO?

The Republic Arms version is a whole lot better than the Cobra manufactured ones thats for sure. How this smoothbore barrel escaped the production line for Republic arms blows my mind. When they work properly they are an exceptional, simple, and strong design. When they dont work properly they are borderline dangerous and can have out of battery detonations. I dont recommend them to people unless they know what they are doing. The Same goes for Cobra 380acp and 9mm patriots which are an old Talon industries design. Also not recommended if people cant handle HK VP70z weight range/style trigger pulls. I will say though that when Cobra was around they had some of the greatest and most honest techs around always easy to contact by phone and willing to send out any parts that would help for basically nothing. A good group of people that where hampered severely by parts subcontractors. I was pretty disappointed they didnt survive in the industry. Sccy and FMK seem to be doing well still. Also great people.

Problem with buying any of those Cobra/Republic patriots now is if its a basketcase you need to have an decent assortment in your parts bin. The specs are very inconsistent ranging from slightly oversize to severely undersize. The Patriot/Talon 380/9mm I have to modify parts from other pistol designs to get them dialed in most of the time. Im pretty confident I am dialed into those designs better than any of the factory techs were at this point. Its been a maddening process and crazy amount of work but I like all my patriots. I even carry the 45acp and 380acp versions quite a bit but they are basically custom fitted and enhanced now. From the factory... no way in hell I would ever carry one. I would carry a Lorcin before I carry a factory Patriot 45/9mm/380.

When I lived in the country, for 7 years, in Connecticut we has two cases of wild ticks and one badger. Had a CCP but never carried except in New Haven at night.
Did not shoot the ticks...use tweezers. Did not shoot the badger....used smoke bomb and forced it into neighbor's property.

Just some Federal 158gr semi jacketed FP I happen to have. The same big male has been raiding our garbage cans for many years. He leaves when I make loud noise so I'd bet just the blast & flash would make him take off for the woods. The last thing I want to do shoot the bear or any two legged creature either. We hadn't seen him in a few weeks but he raided our garbage when I was submitting my earlier post this morning. Got the bird suit too.

How the extraction on your Pit Bull (sticky?)? They were a little glitchy when they first came out with that ability to go without moonclips. I figure Charter has gotten it dialed in by now. Seems like if its going to show up it will be in the 40S&W the most. Ive been patiently waiting for Charter to get that extraction system dialed in before getting serious about a purchase.
