I just picked up a Hi Point 9mm carbine in trade, and I love it. Its definately not the best looking thing but it's better looking than the original model with the classic stock. It handles kinda funny... I don't know if its because of the gun or because I'm used to other things. Also the trigger, contrary to what I've heard is not bad at all... its just not an AR
Anywho, she shoots like a dream and the cheapo 4x Aim Sports scope that came with it is spot on. No FTF/FTEs and it's rather nice being able to use a scope at 50 yards and saturate the center mass of the silhouette with lead at a pretty high ROF. I kinda picked one up for the fun factor, but there are a few tactical advantages to it (for those of you who care)
1. the charging handle is on the left so it is not necessary to let go of the trigger.
2. Pistol Style thumb safety (faster for me, probably because i mostly shoot pistols.
3. reloads are incredibly fast. it loads in through the grip and empty mags drop free. I'm already well practiced at reloading a handgun very quickly.
4. ammunition is lightweight, cheap, and incredibly easy to find.
5. and of course it can share ammo with a handgun.
I imagine that the baretta carbines are much nicer, but most complaints about ergonomics, trigger pull etc are from people who compare this thing to rifles like an AR-15. While this is no substitute for a good rifle, its defiantly a great thing to have
