No?
Nawwwwww Safety First. I chuckle every time I hear somebody rant on about how wimpy the 9 is, and how a .45 is so much better. The .45 holds an edge with hardball, to be sure...but when both started improving with modern loadings and good hollowpoints...124 grain for 9mm please ...that gap closed up quite a bit. Now the two are so close that it's essentially a toss-up. I prefer the .45 because it's the caliber that's "right" in a 1911, and my hand is permanently molded around that grip frame...like a pair of worn-out tennis shoes...and because I've spent so much time with'em that for me to switch now would be like startin' all over. Too old for that.
The reality is that, with a round that generates the energy and penetration of the really good 9mm loadings, feeling underarmed or undergunned would be a stretch. If the round is placed well, it will do well. If not, the best hollowpoint likely won't. Handguns are woefully underpowered things to trust your life to in the first place...up to and including the .44 Magnum. Bullet placement is about all there is to count on...and that's up to the shooter.
Now then...I have caried a 9mm on occasion. The old Beretta M-92...the one with the frame-mounted safety...and felt well-armed at that. The only problem with the big Beretta was the thickness made it problematical to hide.
Other than that, it was a great pistol. Never a malfunction with any ammo...Accuracy wasn't anything to write home about, but entirely adequate for its intended purpose, and 16 rounds on tap, if that really matters. Hell, I've even carried a Beretta M-84 and felt good about it...and would again under the right circumstances. Not as good as with the 92 or one of my 1911s...but I knew that it would do as well as I could make it do. 10 or 12 rounds of .380 Silvertip placed around the ol' wishbone in 3 or 4 seconds will completely wreck your day...guaranteed.
There! I've said it! *grumblegrumble*
