It could be made fairly small and you could use car batteries :) To bad people can't make new machine guns for civies :( bet it would be lots of fun...
For the sake of discussion, if it were legal, and say about......1000-1500 bucks, would you buy it? :D

DUH!

If what you described could be made legally, I would be over it in a heart beat.

One of the main reasons I haven't given much serious thought to ever owning a machine gun(other than the fact that I live in Washington:( ) Is the cost of keeping it fed. Having one in .22lr would kind of do away with that problem.

It's kind of like a boat that way. I can afford a decent boat, but I'm not sure I can afford keeping gas in it, or all the new fishing stuff I would HAVE to buy.

You could take something like one of these and hook an electric motor to it.

Of course you could, but all that does is effectively make the motor's switch the trigger. Then, as one press of the trigger produces more than one shot, you have an unregistered machinegun, and the BATF doesn't take kindly to that.

SDC, I like that one....

years ago, some outfit made a gatling gun in .22 short. Advertised as "The World's Ultimate Rabit Gun".

Gets my vote.

I find it so sad when ignorance trumps imagination.

The man is looking for a minigun that runs off car batteries. The ATF kinda frowns on them too! :p

Of course we're all smart enough here to pay for the proper tax stamps for this stuff right? (Gatling excluded of course)

I saw a pic of a .22 LR minigun somewhere, pretty sure I saved it, I'll have to rummage around the hard drive a bit.

There is an outfit that has plans and kits for a .22 LR gatling. I guess feeding it is a problem tho. been thinking of getting the plans
Not sure if I have that much time tho

I have liked the idea of a .22 externally powered Gatling/Mini-Gun from the time my father told me about the Mini's in the AC-119.

I think that the Bailey Gun would actually make for a better design in a .22 multi-barrel rotary though - the barrels are controlled by the cam to move back and forth over the cartridge, kind of like a bottling machine.

I figured this should make it simpler to integrate a really high capacity linkless drum - probably "recirculating" to return the empties back into the drum.

What I really wanted was a 3000rpm device with 3000 rounds onboard for one whole minute of operation before having to haul out the loading/unloading gadget you would need to charge the thing.

I've got 2 videos of a 22 mini gun I downloaded.

can't find the link, but the videos are titled;

MVC-miniIII

and

MVC-steel%20mini.

I tried a search, but couldn't find them.

If you have serious machining skills, there is a company called RG-34 (I think) that has plans for a 6 barreled Gatling in .22cal. They now mkde a few of the pieces and sell the raw stock for the guns. The set of plans is very compete. If you have a shop at your house or know someone who will not charge an arm and a leg for fabricating the parts, it's one way to go.

In one of his books Capstick wrote of a freon powered BB gun. In his story he shot down dragonflies, while fantasizing he was a WWI gunner shooting at Fokkers. The story had me laughing so hard I hurt my ribs.:D

I think something is around that uses compressed air, since you can't get freon anymore.

I was under the impression that you could manufacture a MG for yourself; as long as you really do make it yourself (not drop a DIAS in a AR15 or something).. Didn't some dude make his own and get arrested, then it was decided that because it manufactured one for his own use it was legal? Where's HKMP5?

American 180. Looks like a Lewis gun. 177 round drum, FA, .22 lr. Shot one at Second Chance one year. Great fun. The company that makes them had a video of a 4 gun mount on an ultra-light aircraft and shooting a bunch of balloons on a log. The video also showed it ripping a steel pot helmet to shreds. As I recall the rate of fire was very high. 1500 rpm. http://www.american180.com/index.html
There already is a Gatling style .22. Hand cranked though. Putting a motor on it makes it a machine gun and therefore illegal to make. http://www.gatlingguns.net/

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ELEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS????!??!?!?!?!?!

I was thinking that a .22 Gatling gun might be cool enough to push off my next couple of purchases for, but I didn't expect it to be in the 5 figure price range. Holy Moly. I guess I could always get the plans and make one myself...

Guess I'd better go buy some lottery tickets.

I think I saw that somewhere, something to do with the 9th Circuit court area.

What about putting a handcrank on one of those semi-automatic only M1919s or whatever?

I think that's as close you could get to a real legal machinegun these days without spending 20-30 thousand dollars =d

Didn't Carbine Williams make a beltfed .22 machinegun? I can't remember the rate of fire offhand, but it was so fast that they said it sounded like cloth ripping. That could be fun....
