Recently on Gunbroker I saw a 1943 03 Springfield, with a period appropriate scope, in what seemed like excellent condition. It had 0 bids and started at $0.01. I was excited at the prospect of getting a $4000 gun for pennies possibly. I thought maybe it had slipped through the cracks. Then I saw that it had a reserve and reality hit me. That auction is still up for a few hours, btw.

What's the best deal you've ever gotten?

On Gun Broker? Bought several things from there but don't think I ever got a tremendous deal. I have seen some fantastic bolt guns going at great prices when no reserve price was included.

Best deal for me was probably my Browning Hi Power for $300 in about 2000, but that wasn't an online sale.

I bought a Chinese Tokarev for a C-note from a pawn shop. It needed just a little care and cleaning, sight adjustment and it was running like a clock. I ended up selling it for a profit.

Just got a K31 for 200. Beautiful condition, matching serial numbers. Not a steal but a good deal IMO

An un-issued Moisin Nagant with factory shipping tag attatched for $50 close to 20 years ago...Like the dumb kid I was, I cut the tag off and shot the crap out of it...

posted it before, but an SVT-40 with cosmoline in the bore in 2011 for $225. I know that is not a steal for the rest of the world, but here in USA with the import regs we have it is.

An M1 from the CMP? I got one of the last M1 carbines from them too - an Underwood with a SN that is quite low for them. So not great deals, but ok.

Failing those, I got an old Mossberg scope from a thrift store here, I think for $8. I sold it for north of $50.

I traded a Traditions .50 caliber ML carbine that I bought for $85 to a fellow who had no use for his "200th Year", 4 5/8", .357 Blackhawk.

I also bought a Lyman Great Plains Hunter in .54 for $85....... no way could I get the seller down to $80. "I know what I have here, pal."

Hi Folks-

Sorry, NO pics available; but I picked up a couple of blued Colt 2nd series
(1947-1972) Detective Specials in really good shape for $200 each. I still
own both of 'em; as they are part of my "Safe Queens". I have gotten many
other "good deals" in the past, and still own most of 'em~! Not bragg'in but
it does pay to work in a gun shop~! I'm blessed; a great job, an a excellent
employer.

I got a k98K Mauser for $1.oo . Thats right...one dollar. His wife had given him a Weatherby rifle so he just dropped it in my lap. This was 1980 or '81.The stock had been "worked on" so I had to find a replacement. I'll admit it...that Weatherby is a pretty gun. I think he deer hunted another three years. I bet that rifle hasn't been shot since '85. thats OK...it got me another rifle! :D

My best deal

The fall of 1963 bought my first center fire rifle. I went in to a lgs in Wichita Ks, the clerk was a real Jacka## know it all. I found a Model 43 218 BEE Winchester that had a old Weaver K-6 on it, that that clerk had put the wrong price tag on. I asked him twice if that was the correct price and trying to look like a big shot in front of his buddies he said it was and that if I wanted the gun I would have to pay cash. The rifle was used but in real good shape and the owner of the gun shop always included 2 boxes of ammo with each gun sale. So I walked out of the store with the rifle and scope and 2 boxes shells for $ 40.00 bucks. I danced all the way to my old 1957 Ford. I still have the rifle and still hunt with it, one of my treasures. ken

Uncle gave me a practically brand new W. German P228 for free. :p

Aside from that I got a very good condition used 870 Wingmaster for like $300.

I walked into a pawn shop and saw what looked like a Mosin Nagant leaned up in a corner behind the counter. As I got closer to the counter, I started seeing some Finnish modifications on the rifle. Being a Finn collector, I got excited.

I asked the guy behind the counter if it was for sale. He said yes and handed it to me. I inspected the rifle and decided it was a Finn M27 . It was in great condition, almost as if it were unissued. I then looked at the price tag. The tag said $99. On the inside, I was freaking out. I asked the guy if he would do $100 cash out the door . He said yes.

I giggled all the way home.

Remington 700 PSS in 308. 26" barrel, Leupold Vari-x III, 2.5 x 10 tactical knobs. 40 rounds through it for $600

I have 2:

I got a Norinco SKS AND a Mossberg 702 plinkster for 200$ (2010)
I got a Remington 700 (late 70's) in 30-06 for 150. Covered in camo tape and looked like crap, but my 8th grade woodworking skills brought out its true beauty.

IIRC, I got my S&W M66 no-dash on GB for ~$265. That was 5-6 years ago. That will be one of the last revolvers I give up. I might be buried with it. :)

Just kidding...I'm sure the undertaker would pocket it and plant me unarmed.

Bastidge. :fire:
