Your concept or a perfect handgun battery?

For home defense (to back up the 12ga): 45ACP CZ-97B, 1911 Govt. or 6" N Frame .357

Full size Range Gun: Beretta 92FS or CZ-75B in 9mm

For a CCW: 45ACP Colt CCO or CZ-75 PCR in .40S&W(when CZ decides to make one)

For Pocket Carry: .380 Kel-Tec P3AT or 9mm Kahr PM9/P9Covert

Glad to realize that I have most of them, still need to work on rounding out the collection though.

Here's my justification of what I have:

1) A .22 for new shooters, practice, target, small game; mine--Ruger 22/45)

2) A small, easy-to-carry handgun. Either:
-a J-frame or equivalent revolver (mine--2" 340PD); or
-a mousey auto

3) A midsize common caliber 'service' type handgun for HD, games, and possibly carry. Could be one of several types:
-a K/L frame or equivalent revolver (mine--4" 66); or
-a 1911; or
-a modern semi (mine--G17)

4) A biga** handgun for long range shooting, hunting, & really blasting stuff. E.g.:
-an N-frame or equivalent revolver (mine--6" 657)
-a T/C or equivalent single-shot
-a really big (10mm or up) auto

So there it is: four guns would do pretty nicely, I think, to cover any real handgun needs that are likely to arise. Other artificial 'needs' are created, of course, by the rules of specific gun games & such, but I've really grown much less interested in getting more handguns since I filled out this 'basic battery'. Now I just wanna shoot them all to pieces.

A lot of good posts. A lot of fun posts. And another vote for El Tejon.

Minimum? Geez. OK, a minimum to back up my long guns (grins- always cheat, always win) would be something my wife is competent with too: A couple of Hi Powers, a few J frames, and a couple of 3.5" N frame .357's or 4" .44 Specials.

My Sweetheart may beat me about my head and replace my Hi Powers with her 1911's. Which is OK because I still get my N frames :).

And hey, FL does have gators, the kind with long pointy teeth and rough looking skin. Mandatory Big Bores :)

Battery = gunrag-hack speak for collection:scrutiny:

I have batterys in my truck, in my jeep, in my sure-fire, I don't have a handgun battery. I just got a bunch of pistols. :D

Sorry. I usually don't delve into symantics, I just hate this term.
It's just me.

Surprised no one said it yet.
Two of everything. In each finish. Of each year. Every manufacturer.
As well as a pair of dillon 1050s, and.....

Well, you can never have too many handguns for "fun".

My long list includes a lot of revolvers and a few autos.

For CCW, my list is MUCH shorter:

1. Valtro 1998A1 - full sized 1911 perfection. Hard Chrome please.

2. STI LS9 - slim line, light weight 1911 convenience in economical 9mm

3. S&W 638 - DA/SA, Airweight in .38+p. Wood grips according to scripture in Deuteronomy ;)

4. Sub-Compact - either a seecamp LWS or a Keltec or maybe an NAA Guardian - have not shot any - whatever is most reliable and fits my giant hands.

5. Derringers in .38, 9mm and .45 ACP and maybe .32ACP. Just because - Derringers are so neat.

edit:

from dictionary.com:

bat·ter·y
n. pl. bat·ter·ies

The act of beating or pounding.
Law. The unlawful and unwanted touching or striking of one person by another, with the intention of bringing about a harmful or offensive contact.

An emplacement for one or more pieces of artillery.
A set of guns or other heavy artillery, as on a warship.
An army artillery unit, corresponding to a company in the infantry.

An array of similar things intended for use together: took a battery of achievement tests.

An impressive body or group: a battery of political supporters.

close enough for me.

I could live with a good .22lr revolver, a 1911 (in 45acp of course), and a good (not that I've seen a bad one) .41mag and be happy as a tick on a coon dawg.
Now I do have many more than that, but those would cover my bases.
